Dark bewitchment abounds on Burn, a magnificent and dramatic future R&B, trap, and bass opus from talented producer Madeaux. An all star crew of musicians join him on the track, including satin voiced New Yorker, Josh Pan, London seductress FiFi Rong, and new artist on our radar, HOLLY. This four way contingent casts an opaque spell on us with their edge-of-the-seat dusky thriller. Serpentine whizzing synths, sultry drawling vocals, and climactic percussion draw us into their tumultuously blistering world, dripping with longing and anguish. Burn brings together the sharp textures of Arca, SOHN, and What So Not with the sonic sorcery of BANKS and Sevdaliza. The song is the latest single off Madeaux’s album BURN, out now on Fool’s Gold. I gladly re-visited The xx’s latest album I See You whilst I was out in the beauty of the wilderness a few weekends ago after a long time away, and I was quickly reminded of how immense a release it is. On Hold is one of the album’s stand out tracks. Who else, but Jamie xx himself has given the song an unexpected remix that emphasizes the trio’s brilliance? On Hold gets a hypnotic and glorious workover brimming with Jamie xx’s signature underground sound. Step into the dark club, get on the dance floor, and contort your body in visceral pleasure to the remix, which even comes with a freshly minted music video. Jamie xx’s remix of On Hold is available now on limited 12″ white vinyl from The xx’s store, here.

New Zealand’s So Below never fails to bewitch me with her dark and gothy music. Ruin is Madeline North’s latest entrancing single, a shimmering, pulsating mass of visceral yet nimble driving electronic pop. She co-wrote the track with Bradley Hale of Now, Now and Sombear as well as singer songwriter Chelsea Jade. So Below explains of Ruin: “This song was written the day after I finished watching Stranger Things so it definitely has some teen angst and spooky vibes in there… basically it’s about trying to rely on someone who always ends up letting you down. It’s one of my favourite tracks to date.” You can purchase the single from iTunes, here.

A name like Strange Club evokes mystery and intrigue, yet this Los Angeles based electronic project lays it all out on Consciousness, their frantic jostling, acidic ringing house jam. This dark and dirty banger buzzes, saws, whirs, and jabs, all the while delivering massive hip hop punch to take us back to those classic club bangers of yore. Strange Club brings us a new level of “consciousness” with their spicy riveting spectacular, which is a free download, here. If you’re new to this creative collective named Strange Club, stream yet another wicked jam below named Operator, which features NINTH CHILD

With a name that plays on the phrase femme fatale in such a dark manner, it’s safe to say that anyone can gather an inkling of what’s to come from Femme Fatality as we dive into this LA band’s new single. The darkwave duo is preparing for the release of their new album Murderwave, and they’ve just released a music video for lead single Perfect, a darkwave meets synthpop cut that feels very Depeche Mode meets She Wants Revenge, with a generous sprinkling of Davey Havok’s Blaqk Audio. You can listen to more of Femme Fatality’s songs on Soundcloud.

Oakland’s own Dimond Saints has been toiling away on a debut full length album during their long absence from the music scene. Now, they’re ready to begin presenting us with the music they’ve crafted while on lockdown in the studio, beginning with a magnificent lead single named IDGAF featuring sensual haunting R&B vocals by Los Angeles’ Yaarrohs, a singer who evokes a cross between Banks and Little Dragons’ Yukimi Nagano. IDGAF is darkly seductive and somberly ominous, the exact sort of deep pulsing, soul consuming shadowy electronica that draws me to Dimond Saints time and time again. Its viscous slinking, carnal snaking future R&B and trap burns with lust and desire. Prism In The Dark’s phenomenal lead single leaves my heart racing in excitement for the record. IDGAF is out now on iTunes.

I count myself fortunate for having caught PASTEL GHOST live in Oakland just over a year ago before she moved across the country to Brooklyn, though I’m much gutted that I wasn’t able to catch her at SXSW earlier this year despite writing about her for the official SXSW Blogger’s Guide. PASTEL GHOST’s gossamer electropop is exactly the kind of dark, gothy music that’s right up my witch house and ravey darkwave loving alley. The project created by “dream rave queen” Vivenne Moon graces us with more of her pulsing synths and foggy dreamscape as she remixes Miami based electropop artist VIRGO’s Disappear, giving VIRGO’s song a moody ghostliness much surreal and intoxicating. VIRGO herself describes the edit as reminding her of scenes from Hayao Miyazaki’s film Castle In The Sky. It’s certainly a gloriously haunting remix, one perfect for those who also love Crystal Castles and TR/ST, like me. Download PASTEL GHOST’s remix of VIRGO’s Disappear, here.

I can’t believe it’s been over a year since we last heard a new song from UK chanteuse Salt Ashes, though in that interim we did get to enjoy her guest vocals on a song from San Francisco’s own CRUELS. She returns to ignite our hearts with a fierce new tune named Save It. Salt Ashes vocals are spectacular on the tune, twisting and turning fervently, soaring to breathtaking heights on the crisply pulsating, soul and gospel inflected electronic pop song. The energy on Save It rises to dance music levels of exuberance, an uplifting and inspiring display of feverish pop much like if Kylie Minogue went Banks on us.
