Robyn’s Dancing On My Own is the quintessential girl anthem. Is there any girl out there who doesn’t love the dance pop classic? I can’t imagine a song more glorifying. Even if you are dancing with your closest friends, you’ll briefly want to dance in solitude. It’s a big F you to the rest of the world, a resolute “I’ll keep doing my own thing anyway”, the electronic pop version of Gloria Gaynor’s I Will Survive. As such, any impressive remix of the tune is welcome in my book. Norwegian producer Stisema offers up exactly that with his ravishing deep house interpretation of the song. His rotund jabbing remix is well worthy of those late night hours at the club. The crowd has thinned. Perhaps you’re the only set of feet left on the sticky dance floor. Framed in flashing lights, you make the ultimate silhouette of strength and confidence as Stisema’s bottomless beats vibrate through the air and pulse through your veins. The producer’s remix is a free download, here.

Robyn’s Dancing On My Own will always be one of my favorite electro pop songs. First of all, it’s a great tune, second of all, I love Robyn, and thirdly, there’s no better empowering theme for every girl out there who likes to twirl around the dance floor (or concert venue) solo every so often. Los Angeles’ Templeton revives the classic with a soulful house remix, complete with lusciously deep bass and exhilarating build ups. There’s no resisting the booming beats and hypnotic drum work on this renewed approach. It’s time… Time to power dance on my own again, the rest of the world can wait.

One more cover, KoL covering Robyn!

Ahh shizzy, I totally had this one lined up for the previous post too but published before I remembered. Adding on another cool cover of a day with this one… Kings of Leon performing one of my favorite Robyn tunes, Dancing On My Own. The rocking version is pretty dang good, too!

EPIC! I shared the awesome The Hood Internet’s Chromeo and Whitney Houston (RIP) mashup yesterday. It seemed to be a hit and was very well done. Today, I share a mashup of ROBYN and Whitney Houston (again, RIP). Here’s Zooash’s Dancing In Houston. It works really well too and I’m fond of both tracks and both artists. How Will I Know is a very good specimen for mashing into other tracks, and that isolated voice version which surfaced the other day was just asking for mega usage.

SNL

Yes, it’s Robyn again. She graced the stage of Saturday Night Live over the weekend, as did Katy Perry as the hostess, who did not perform but partook in a medley of song parodies, including a Florence Welch and Gwen Stefani tracks. Here’s Robyn performing her catchy tunes Call Your Girlfriend and also Dancing On My Own, complete with her usual flashy attire and energetic, quirky dancing. It looks like her extremely successful comeback everywhere else is finally gaining even more speed in the US. ‘Bout time. She’s too awesome and she deserves it.

Robyn on MTV’s O Music Awards

November 2, 2011

I have no idea what the O Music Awards are (from another country?), but Robyn did a 3 song set that’s super fun and enjoyable to watch. As mentioned before, there’s something about Robyn I really, really like. She’s so affable. her long absence between her 90’s success and her recent few years comeback is a big mystery to me, not that I’ve really looked into it. But I get the feeling that she went through a lot in that time period and fought her way back to be the amazing artist that she is. And now she seems like this strong, independent, free woman on stage with some dang sweet dance moves. It also helps that her Swedish electropop dance songs are oh so ridiculously catchy and good to listen to. She’s looking good in these videos, less weather beaten than she oft looks. Looking younger and sounding great!
