A song as gallantly entitled as Sexyland must be good, particularly when it comes from Melbourne “cosmic pop” connoisseurs, Crepes, whom we haven’t heard from for over 12 months. The single, which premiered via Triple J online, stays true to the quintet’s signature brand of cozy strumming, dulcet lilting guitar pop. It’s a jangling dash of twangy surf rock whimsicality and a warm dose of steely sliding, key flickering 70′s rock and roll. Sexyland is lifted from the band’s much anticipated debut full length, set for release later this year. The last time we were presented with new Crepes in the form of Hidden Star, it had been a year since their prior track, too. News of that album is much welcome considering we really don’t want to wait another year for the next Crepes gem.

Melbourne’s Crepes, aside from having quite the tastebuds teasing name, have been delighting us on IHM with their brand of “cosmic pop” for some time now, often reminding me of a blend of Pixies, Spoon, and Tame Impala with their hazy surf pop psychedelia. Crepes are dreamier than ever on kaleidoscopic new song Hidden Star, a heady trip that rockets us across the galactic sky with its psychedelic guitar and disembodied vocals. Hidden Star is Crepes’ first taste of new material in 12 long months, and it leaves me starry eyed and ravenous for swirly bliss. You can purchase the single from Deaf Ambitions, here.

Australian five piece Crepes released a reverb laden, whimsical slacker pop treat named Stages Of Fear this week. The punchy and playful tune is a laid back yet lively treat that reminds me both of the grittiness of early surf rocky Pixies with some of the idiosyncratic style of Spoon as well as a hint of hazy Tame Impala atmosphere. Stages Of Fear is a sunny, charming taste off Crepes’ soon to be released debut EP.

Droopy, languid, and oh so delightfully woozy comes Ain’t Horrible, a debut single from new Australian band Crepes. It’s the first floaty single from the quartet’s forthcoming debut EP, scheduled for release in 2015. Ain’t Horrible blends stoner friendly lo-fi haziness, Spiritualized evoking space rock, and bluesy guitars.
