Though this next one is named Open Eyes, I’m fighting an irresistible urge to close my eyes and sway in bliss while I let the song course through my body. London by way of Adelaide artist Count Counsellor makes an intoxicating return with this second track from his forthcoming ‘& The Friday Friends’ EP, melding diaphanous chillwave with indie pop on the infectious song. Hazy disco, soulful electronica, sleek R&B, and a brisk snazzy guitar line are also meticulously interwoven into this washed out slice of blissed out pop. Open Eyes even features an unexpected Boyz II Men sample. Count Counsellor’s three track ‘& the Friday Friends’ EP will be arriving soon on AESOP / Quality TIme. To celebrate its release, Count Counsellor will be playing a special headlining show at London’s Camden Assembly on September 5th. Ticket details can be found, here

Friends, sometimes they piss you off to no end, and sometimes they’re the most endearing and supportive bosom buddies that ever walked the earth. I wonder if London by way of Australia project Count Counsellor would want to be my friend, because I feel like I can’t live without his new single, Friends, and I’d like to keep it close to me now that I’ve fallen for its quirky left field pop and lustrous groove. Friends is a dynamic trip that starts off introspective with its murky psychedelia, but it bursts open a minute in, after some unexpected synthwave flourishes and coarse yelps, into bright, funky disco pop. Friends is accompanied by the announcement of a new Count Counsellor EP named ‘& The Friday Friends’ which will be arriving on Aesop / Quality Time.

Fresh out of South London comes yet another talented soul pop act going by the name of Count Counsellor. Like so many amazing talents from that side of the pond lately, they have a haunting, electronic style to their soulful music. Warm Bullet, which you can stream above, samples Boyz II Men. It’s a melancholic, captivating song replete with delicate, beautiful piano. Stream their only other track available, the shadowy, hip hop inflected Collide below. The newcomers have been compared to the likes of Aquilo and Kwabs. I’d also throw Sampha into that mix.
