I’ve previously mentioned that Converse is putting together a compilation album full of seasonal goodies. Noise To The World drops January 5th on free, limited vinyl in their stores. Tracks are getting slowly revealed on their Soundcloud, too, and today brings us a tune from Los Angeles dream pop band Dum Dum Girls. This one’s very much Christmas-y, considering it’s titled On Christmas. Dum Dum Girls’ swirly synthpop sound is perfect for the Holidays.ย

Converse is putting together a compilation of music for the winter season. Noise To The World 2 is out January 5th on their Soundcloud and on limited free vinyl in their stores. I’ve already received a number of Christmas songs over the past weeks, and now that it’s December, I suppose it’s time for the wintry holiday music to really pick up. The album features contributions by the likes of Dum Dum Girls, Dear Tick, Iamsu, and GRMLN. I always find something so endearing about GRMLN, aka Yoodoo Park, and the Southern California artist’s 90’s emo flavored slacker rock music. Stream his contribution to the album, Before December (You’re Alive).ย

I’m sure many people were waiting for this to be previewed today. Converse’s Three Artists, One Song series teased us recently with news that their latest tune would be a collaboration between The Clash, Diplo, and Frank Ocean. They always have surprising match ups, and this one was no different. Well, here it is! Hero, by Frank Ocean, Mick Jones, Paul Simonon, and Diplo. The song also features vocals by the West Los Angeles Children’s Choir. Hero is a cool and super smooth track that blends retro elements with Frank Ocean’s urban style. If there’s one thing I’ve learned today, it’s that Frank Ocean likes Converse, but not Chipotle. Google if you don’t get that.

Epicness

June 28, 2013

Imma take a moment and gloat a lil. Please bear with me. Converse put together this AWESOME video of Hot Chip performing Flutes this past Tuesday at their free show at Slim’s in San Francisco. All week long they have been putting on epic shows at the intimate Slim’s with amazing lineups. I was lucky enough to attend one of the shows (had a chance to attend more but didn’t make it). It was likely the apex of the whole Converse Represent week, the most highly coveted and prized night featuring a sweet, sweet lineup of Social Studies, Blackbird Blackbird, Tycho, and… HOT CHIP! Flute is one of my favorite Hot Chip tunes. I had no idea they were filming this, including footage of the audience (no cameo by me, whew), but the clip captures the electric energy of the show wonderfully. What a night in the books! Hot Chip fans, you’ll dig this. Converse, you’re getting more free marketing here… I’d like some free chucks, please! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Jessie Ware on A Take Away Show

November 20, 2012

Converse, La Blogotheque, Pitchfork TV, and Jessie Ware all came together to record this gorgeous, acoustic rendition of Running in Paris. It’s an epic A Take Away Show. I can’t wait to see the UK star live early next year. The small show sold out already, but I have my tickets. ๐Ÿ˜‰

OFFICIAL VID: Mark Foster, A-Trak, Kimbra – Warrior

April 5, 2012

Converse seems to be majorly picking up speed on the 3 Artists, 1 Song project. Over the past few years, new releases came out maybe once a year or so. VERY recently they gave us the Gorillaz, Andre 3000 and James Murphy collaboration Do Ya Right, which was a fun listen but not too complex. Today, we get the new collaboration between Mark Foster (Foster The People), A-Trak, and Kimbra. The song is titled Warrior, and it’s probably one of the best ones to come out of this series so far. As I stated before, I expected it to be an improvement considering the piecing together of these 3 talented musicians that could work so well together. You can def hear the influence of each artist very clearly in this, but the Foster The People sound is probably the strongest here.ย Without further ado, have a listen… indie pop galore with some sweet beats by A-Trak!ย

UPDATE: Seriously, this is pretty good stuff! Finally, something from this 3 artists project that doesn’t sound perfunctory and forced! That’s what was wrong with the past few songs from the project, as fun as some of them sounded… they were too FORCED. This one feels natural and it’s a catchy song worthy of repeat listens! Loving it!

OFFICIAL VID: Gorillaz feat Andre 3000 and James Murphy – DoYaThing

February 29, 2012

The Converse three artists one song project released the Gorillaz, Andre 3000, and James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem) collaboration DoYaThing the other day. When I shared, there were those that hated it and those that loved it. Yes, indeed, it’s not the best Gorillaz track and the songs from this Converse project haven’t been top notch, but it’s still a decent song and it’s still VERY enjoyable to hear something new from Gorillaz, and with Andre 3000 and James Murphy too. Today, a video was released for the track. How can you not enjoy animated Gorillaz videos? The sound mixing is a little odd with how the song fades in and out. Either way, this is pretty dang cool. By the way, the word on the street is that there will not be a new Outkast album any time soon, if ever. Too bad… And we already know LCD Soundsystem is no more.
