It would seem that most of my music head friends agree across the board that this one’s a real gem. Get those quivering sighs ready as we dive into the beauty of Coexist, a collaborative affair between Finnish producer Tontario and much IHM championed Portland crooner LEO ISLO. The union is pure bliss, a combination of Tontario’s wispy, dreamy chill house and LEO ISLO’s heart melting cooing. I wouldn’t mind if these two co-existed on many more songs, but in the meantime, endless shivers and tingles are traveling up and down my spine to the spacious ambiance and lush atmosphere of this soothing track. OFFICIAL VID: The xx – Sunset (Jamie xx Edit)

July 10, 2013

On Record Store Day back in April of this year, there was an exclusive release of a 12" vinyl that included two Jamie xx edits of songs off Coexist. Limited to 4000 copies and released by Young Turks, the vinyl is a gorgeous thing to behold. Guess who has a copy? ME! The songs remixed by Jamie xx included Sunset and Reconsider. Today saw the release of an official video for the Jamie xx edit of Sunset. The video is filled with footage from a vintage French television channel. The remix itself is a hypnotic deeper house re-imagining of the standout song. Sunset is likely my favorite track off Coexist. Who doesn’t in some way or other relate to the lyrics?

OFFICIAL VID: The xx – Fiction

June 6, 2013

Oh, dang. Where have I been? I just realized The xx dropped a new video this morning for Coexist track Fiction. Why wasn’t this plastered all over my social network feed? Seemed NIN was more prominent! Well, anyway, here it is… the Oliver centric Fiction! I already launched into a long post about seeing The xx live again last weekend and how great they are, so I’ll leave it as is instead of repeating my usual tribute and endless gushy love.

Kim Ann Foxman’s Sunset remix

March 16, 2013

Iono bout you, but any chance to hear The XX in any shape or form is a win. The xx shared their friend Kim Ann Foxman’s remix of Coexist track Sunset on their Facebook page today. I must say, it’s pretty good. It seems much more guttural with its deep thumpiness despite it being more muted. Kim Ann Foxman is a former member of Hercules and the Love Affair. This seems very much ready for a dank basement club dance floor.

Now, this is sweet and stunning. I’ve been gushing about Mikky Ekko since I first heard his Clams Casino produced track Pull Me Down. The Tennessee crooner is sure to be on the rise this year. For BBC Radio 1, he recorded this amazing cover of The xx’s Chained. He also performed Pull Me Down live. Stream Chained above and Pull Me Down below in the widget. It’s goosebump inducing stuff.

The xx remixed the xx

January 3, 2013

Jamie XX decided to rework their very own Coexist track Sunset, making it a deep house, club basement/late night ready affair. Sunset is a helluva song and Romy and Oliver’s vocals are so pivotal to the track, so I was a little worried the remix might switch things up too much. Never fear. The elements are still there. It’s a good remix and satisfying new approach.

The xx documentary

December 18, 2012

You can never get too much of The xx in one day. Pitchfork presented a 3 part documentary well worth checking out if you’re a fan. All 3 parts below. Enjoy. By the way, I’m playing catchup again since I had connectivity issues, so I might have to keep some things short and to the point. May have to share at odd hours or play catchup tomorrow too. Please bear with me.
