Better late than never, right? Especially when it comes to this sultry simmering treat from Daisy Gray, which we must have missed out on because we were running our legs off in Austin at SXSW. What’s even more astonishing about previously missing out on this rising sensation is the fact that she hails from right here in San Francisco! The budding singer songwriter graces us with her torrid burning, passionately seductive voice, a truly powerful force to be reckoned with, on debut single Saviour, whose video has already racked up over a quarter million streams since late March. In a locale where a ton of indie rock and electronica is flourishing, Daisy Grey’s just the talented pop addition we need to add to our diverse music-scape, a savior indeed. We can’t wait for her to be the star she’s obviously ready to be. Download/stream Saviour, here. Listen to her smoky sensual cover of Chris Isaak’s Wicked Game below and continue marveling over Daisy Gray’s voice.

NYC indie duo Satellite Mode never fails to captivate us with their gripping combination of noir-pop and alt/electropop. Recent single Bad Woman is but more of that lavishly compelling amalgam. Dark whizzing synths and torrid burning guitars accompany Jess Carvo’s classically trained voice as this gripping palette of sound builds in urgent energy towards foxy electro rock territory. Satellite Mode also dropped a new rendition of Chris Issak’s oft covered provocative classic, Wicked Game, which you can stream below.

Romanian producer Boehm sure is keeping busy with his killer remixes of late. I just shared his NERVO remix yesterday, and here he is again, with an amazing re-work of James Vincent McMorrow’s Wicked Games cover. Boehm takes the heartfelt cover and infuses it with some of his signature relaxing tropical house euphoria. This is a sublime summer “game” with plenty of wickedness hiding within its playful, sultry saxophones and teasing percussion.

POP ETC (once known as Berkeley’s The Morning Benders) is one busy band as of late. Not only have they dropped some spectacular originals (at times with Japanese artist Yoko Kanno), but they now join a long list of acts that have covered Chris Isaak classic Wicked Game. And everything they’ve given us has been fantastic, including this Wicked Game cover, so I can’t help but to keep featuring their new tracks. POP ETC’s Wicked Game is a more somber and stripped down affair, but it’s still full of such charm and passion. In case you have an itch to visit the band’s recent infectious single Running In Circles, let’s listen in on it again, below. POP ETC is working on a new album for later this year.

Yes, there are endless covers of Chris Isaak’s timeless classic Wicked Game floating around, and I’m guilty of featuring a fair share of them. But when I saw that Canadian chanteuse Lydia Ainsworth had turned in a rendition of the seductive song, I knew right away that it would be a sublime treat. Lydia brings her gossamer, haunting, gothy Zola Jesus meets simmering Kyla La Grange style to the song, creating a slow tempo, poignant gem. Lydia Ainsworth will be touring Europe in January and February, in support of her mystique filled, brilliant debut album Right From Real, out now on Arbutus.

So, by all accounts, it seems that this cover, out of the many covers of Chris Isaak’s Wicked Games that arise all the time, is making quite the splash. Parra For Cuva’s deep house version, featuring Anna Naklab, is climbing up some buzz charts of late. Keeping that in mind, just a week ago, I introduced you an enigmatic new production act named Kid Arkade, out of London, who deeply impressed me with their electronic tracks. Well, Kid Arkade has remixed the Wicked Games cover, giving it pulsing, swelling electro house energy that’s out of this world. It’s a rollicking monster of a take. If you missed Kid Arcade’s remix of Rae Morris’ Closer last week, I’m still super fond of it, so let’s revisit!

Many, many bands and musicians from all walks of genres have served up covers of Chris Isaak’s eternally sexy and passionate Wicked Games. The latest to join the fray is Tula, a songstress from Berlin who first caught my ears over two years ago. Now a five piece act based in Sweden, they give us a version of Wicked Games that comes at us with a minimalist pop leaning electronic pop approach that’s wonderfully enchanting and bewitching. After much silence, this is a very welcome re-introduction to Tula, and I look foward to whatever originals they have in store for us next.

Holy mackerel, it’s a helluva day so far. Guess what London Grammar covered on BBC Radio? I actually specifically gave thought to this ages ago, and they’ve actually done it! I figured they’d fit this song like a glove with their sensual sound. London Grammar performed a haunting, gut wrenching cover of Chris Isaak’s iconic classic Wicked Game. I sure as hell hope I’ll get to hear this beautiful cover live when I see them live late September. I’ll melt into a puddle on the dance floor. They’ll have to mop me up. London Grammar’s debut album If You Wait comes out on September 10 on Columbia.  IF I wait, huh? Must I wait?
