Jaja Bu’s Sweetness is a tangy and spicy, peppery and gritty sort of sweet. The new producer and artist out of Los Angeles makes his first appearance on IHM with a moody smoldering, choppy haunting experimental R&B tune that feels like FYFE gone murky nebulous and ghostly vaporous, as if infused with some Sevdaliza and some Arca-like production. Sweetness is a chopped and screwy serpentine suitor, brimming with carnal lust and aching longing. It makes an indelible mark on us, and we look ahead eagerly for what Jaja Bu has in store for us next.

21 year old artist SIMONE has me spellbound, nay, planted in awe, with her music. I happened upon her second song Always Get Me High by chance, but as it turns out, many others discovered her due to the fact that Cashmere Cat himself shouted her out on his socials for how impressed he is by her music. Always Get Me High, marked as a “new demo”,  is deliciously dark and abrasive. SIMONE is like Kiiara or Terror Jr gone Ritualz and Shlohmo goth witchy or chop screwy. The song blisters and seethes, but underneath all its warped distortion and droopy synths is the allure of a honeyed brittle voice. I have a feeling we’ll be learning a lot more about SIMONE in the near future. Stream SIMONE’s very first song, Never Satisfied, below.

If you’re one who likes to be haunted by the dark and eerie, Clams Casino is going to have your skin crawling and spine tingling with a seriously wicked remix of WET’s Weak. He turns the pillowy song into a droopy, syrupy work of dark art. It’s a sparse but droning refix that I’d love to lose myself in on Halloween night. Ghostly apparitions flicker across the atmospheric remix by the New Jersey producer.

As you’ve probably heard in the news by now, the Grammy nominations rolled in this morning, and Sia’s Chandelier received some major nods, as expected. But let’s not forget her other fantastic tunes off 1000 Forms Of Fear, one of the more artistic, profound, and solid pop releases of the year. Another favorite of mine off that album is Big Girls Cry, and guess who’s turned in a remix? Everyone’s favorite Seattle electronic duo, Odesza! Yep, if you’ve ever wondered what it might sound like if the brilliant Sia Furler teamed up with the influential electronic act, this here’s your chance to get an idea. The glitchy, choppy, and chillwavey rendition of Sia fits her well, since Sia’s always had this darker, moodier sound… a pop with an edge.

Denver based producer Muta, aka Cliff Harris, is going to scramble your brains with this heady remix of British act FEMME’s High. The choppy, screwy remix is ethereal and ghostly, skittering and flittering endlessly with such textured, gossamer elements. It’ll be easy to get completely lost in this syrupy, trippy track.

Let’s go droopier and darker with this new Shlohmo remix, shall we? The Los Angeles producer creates a magical, ominous soundscape with his reworking of Berlin artist Perera Elsewhere’s Light Bulb. It’s a creeper… slow moving and oh so intoxicatingly heavy and thick. Oh, Shlohmo, you’re so good at what you do.

A little over a month ago, I discovered a producer from Washington named BLVCK CEILING. His haunting, witchy music immediately was immediately appealing to me, since I’m pretty fond of the dark stuff. I really dug his remix of Kreayshawn’s Gucci Gucci, as did many of you. BLVCK CEILING’s remix of Katy Perry’s Dark Horse is also wickedly compelling, though it’s considerably less draggy and ghoulish. It’s a great synthy hip hop twist on Katy Perry.

It’s no secret how much I love UK collective Clean Bandit’s Rather Be, featuring Jess Glynne. I only shouted it at the top of my lungs a gazillion times over. Sorta. There seems to be an endless sea of remixes of the tune these days. It did sit very pretty and deservedly at #1 in the UK for many weeks, after all. Is it still up there? I think Sam Smith’s Money On My Mind knocked it down one, the last I heard anything about it, I may be wrong. By the way, that’s another song I’ve cluttered your feed with endless raves about. Back to Rather Be, I’m just waiting for the tune to invade this side of the pond. I’ve gotten at least one friend obsessively addicted to the tune. She can’t seem to stop playing the song! Out of the growing list of remixes, there are many fantastic ones, some that stay rather true to the original, some that stray in sound further away. If you want a more trippy, slowed down, syrupy version, DWYR has offered up this Slow Jam Edit that’s quite riveting and delicious. The producer based in Spain does a great job balancing the shimmery, hazy production with Jess Glynne’s vocals, tweaking at the exact right moments. It’s very heady, indeed.
