In less than two weeks, I’ll finally get to cross “seeing Kllo” off my bucket list, though I can’t promise I won’t end up adding “seeing Kllo a second time” right back on immediately afterwards. We’ve been following along with the duo from Melbourne, Australia for over two years, and we’re ultra excited to finally experience them live when they headline Popscene in San Francisco on June 1st. The “potential” of me coming away from the show even more awestruck than before is more than high. The duo recently returned with a gorgeously stirring new tune named Potential, a soft trickling, tenderly yearning downtempo ballad whose supple R&B pop and mellow beats evoke WET melded into some early BROODS. The translucent heart-render is out now on Ghostly. Stream/download, here

The thought of teflon usually brings to mind something tough and resistant, hard and strong. Yet Cleveland’s Teflon Sega renders us a melted, liquefied mess every time he serenades us with one of his R&B soul ballads. Those feelings bubble to surface yet again as Teflon Sega melts us with his creamy, satiny cooing on new single Closure, a poignant lament of a dreamy electro and velvety R&B track featuring sonic magician YLXR on foggy atmospheric, dusky surreal production duty. Tragic romance and aching heartbreak take a hold of us as we dissolve into this pillowy, dreamy affair. While the closure we seek in life might always evade us, at least we can seek comfort in Teflon Sega and drift into the night feeling a little bit more complete. Closure is a free download, here.

We must thank long time R&B pop favorite DVWEZ, not once, but twice, for the sublime aural experience that is this next silky gliding joint. Not only did she key us in on RYSC’s Release, but she also worked with the mysterious artist, her friend, on the song. The R&B soul and chill electronica hybrid comes off of RYSC’s recent Amyloid EP, a gorgeously affecting four track release you can stream in full below. For those that have never read about amyloids, they’re these sticky proteins that aggregate into plaques and fibrils all throughout the body, but when it happens in the brain, research has shown that this can lead to the degenerative disease known as Alzheimer’s (I have my science degrees and past research experience to thank for this knowledge). It seems that RYSC is making a statement about memories, and how they’re tied to sorrow and heartbreak, with his music. Indeed, Release is a wistful and bittersweet yet airy and sublime beauty on which he coos “I try to forget, all the things you said to me…” Hopefully, someday soon, they’ll find the cure for Alzheimer’s, and we’ll never have to fear forgetting how blissful it is to dissolve into RYSC’s sweet Release.

We were so overjoyed at stumbling upon Jay Lewn earlier today that we knew, his music was a must share and right away, too. The singer songwriter and musician from London tenderizes our hearts with his dreamy silky cooing on his latest slow burning R&B soul jam, The_Night. He takes us on a twilight escapade with the chill sauntering ballad steeped in late night longing and lovesick introspection. The_Night looks to be Jay Lewn’s second single, and it comes on the heels of last month’s Nicotine_Clouds, also an exquisite gem with a more dub heavy atmosphere. The track kindles and sparks softly like a campfire on a dark pensive night. The smoke from the fire clings to our skin, following us around like Jay Lewn’s floaty vocals on the gossamer R&B soul and shadowy minimalist electronica song. It swirls its way into our hearts, leaving us haunted under its weighty embrace. Keep up with the outstanding new artist on Facebook, here.

Norwegian production talent Bearson teams up with gooey melting New Yorker Josh Pan on their new collaborative track, a dreamy ambling, murky wafting R&B/electro track named Free. Freed we are from the shackles of life, if only for a few minutes, as we drift and sway to this dark simmering gem. The song is a major shift in sound for Bearson, who usually gives us vibrant and uptempo tracks, but we can’t help but love this change in pace from the versatile producer. Dusky synths and a slow waltzing cadence make Free the perfect song to set the mood for a slow dance with that someone special, but its tender melancholy is also fit for some lonesome pining late into the night. Download Bearson and Josh Pan’s Free, here.

Darkwave duchess ABRA strikes again with a brilliant new tune. The much buzzing Atlanta based singer songwriter and producer haunts us with barbed hip hop and vaporous R&B on misty and gossamer B.R.A.T, a cheeky lo-fi jam produce by Father. B.R.A.T is a wicked track that reminds us of ABRA’s earlier tracks. Take a trip down memory lane and re-visit those spaciously atmospheric gems on Soundcloud, here.

Atmospheric, dramatic synths surge through our ears and serenade our dark hearts on BK Woe, a fierce yet sensuous hip hop and R&B soul track dripping with desire from Harlem based Melii. Droopy, syrupy electronic production accompanies the 19 year old’s stunning voice. BK Woe is a barbed yet seductive ballad, raw yet refined, ghostly opaque yet burning with a fiery heat. Stream/purchase the song, here, and listen to more of Melii’s music on Soundcloud, here.

Canadian R&B musician Tommy Paxton-Beesley has made an indelible impression on the world as River Tiber, even catching the attention of fellow Toronto artist Drake in the process, which lead to their collaboration on Drake’s widely celebrated 2015 album If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late. River Tiber is also known for working with BADBADNOTGOOD and Kaytranada, as well as Jazz Cartier. It’s been awhile since IHM checked in on the artist. Just in time for the coldest, shortest days of the year comes his warm caressing, velvety smoldering new ballad, Patience. A soupy, murky mixture of broiling R&B and plush electronica oozes late night longing and heartbroken melancholia, but in a steamy seductive, sensually evocative fashion. Ever astonishing are River Tiber’s exceptional vocals. We reel under the weight of so much heated passion. Patience can also be streamed via Soundcloud below.

Talent oozes from RYAN Playground, the forward thinking Montreal based singer songwriter and producer who we’ve been so taken by that we’ve even written about for an official SXSW guide. We never know quite what to expect when a new RYAN Playground song surfaces. We’ve been enthralled by her live electronic sets as well as swayed in dreamy ecstasy to her more soothing  pop offerings. Almost Died is the latter, a whimsically textured downtempo electronica meets misty soft acoustic pop track from a highly anticipated forthcoming album. A gentle aeration permeates Almost Died’s organic strums and melancholic hum. Hopefully, the chiffon ballad is a sign of much more to come soon, as well as an official album announcement. In the meantime, stream more RYAN Playground on Soundcloud, here.

We’ve been touting Jadu Heart and the UK duo’s genre defying form of spacey psych soul and R&B pop this past year with much verve, so a new song from the pair is much cause for celebration, much less a track that involves celebrated producer Mura Masa, too! Mura Masa seems to be keeping himself extra busy these days producing tracks for a plethora of fine emerging artists. He crafts a luscious and complex soundscape on U Never Call Me, over which Jadu Heart croons ever suavely with their velveteen vocals. The lush grooving R&B soul and chill electronica song is the perfect juncture between both act’s styles of sound. U Never Call Me arrived with an abstract visual whose luminescent ripples and watery obscurity are a fine supplement to U Never Call Me’s turbid and sensual allure. Download/stream the single, here.
