20 year old Australian multi-instrumentalist and producer Timothy Arnott fuses hip hop, dance, and classical motifs in his genre defying brand of electronica as Ukiyo. One listen to new single Calling, which features Perth talent Your Girl Pho on honeyed soulful vocals, and you’ll understand why Ukiyo is creating a buzz with his tunes. Ukiyo is the riveting architect of an ornate whirring, organic shifting soundscape both airy buoyant and tactile gripping on Calling. His frisky shear, pointed jabbing synths are like shock waves of pure electricity. Yet, Calling is also warm and cozy, emotive and snug. It drips in golden trickles of sweet romance and doe eyed desire. Ukiyo’s Calling is a free download, here.

I can’t wait to return to Austin in a couple months for SXSW. But I’ve come to learn that not only is Austin a hot bed of musical activity in March, but it’s also a haven for musical talent all year long. Take for example, this duo from that lovely town, a producer and vocalist duo named LZRS TXN. They list their genres as intergalactic groovy chillwave hip hop, and their single Let It Go (not at all related to James Bay or Frozen) is a lavish current of chill hop and electronica bliss. I get carried away by its warm, dreamy flux as its surges of dance euphoria take me to new levels of highs. The luxuriant song is a free download direct from LZRS TXN’s Soundcloud, here.

I’m very fond of Australian singer songwriter St. South’s beautiful music, in all its feathery soft, captivating chill allure. Yet, somehow, I managed to overlook a gorgeous gem she released recently till now. Wildest Dreams is St. South’s spellbinding Taylor Swift cover, a spectacularly fleecy and dreamy re-imagining. Her Wildest Dreams drifts along like a gentle hip hop breeze, its sparse minimalism reminding me of The xx while St. South’s breathy, emotive vocals seem like a combination of K.Flay and Lana Del Rey. Download the “chill hop” rework for free from St. South’s Soundcloud.
