We called New Shack one of our favorite new finds earlier this year when we encountered the synthwave duo’s single Ways and Means. The singer songwriter and production pair from Utah re-enforces that love at first sight, er, listen, by dousing us with more of their warped, wonky synths and cool, honeyed vocals on whimsical and glossy new treat, Cherry. A chilled out Sleigh Bells vibe meets a dreamy crisp, synth bustling School Of Seven Bells sound on the deliciously intoxicating tune. Cherry is a taste from New Shack’s fourth EP, arriving soon this year. You can snag the single from iTunes, here.

It’s very rare that IHM shares an entire EP, but there are several reasons we’re making an exception this beautiful Friday morning with Summertime. First of all, each and every song off Luna Shadows’ debut record is phenomenal. Secondly, the fast rising Los Angeles multi-instrumentalist, singer songwriter, and producer happens to have dropped the EP on her birthday. And thirdly, did I mention how fantastic all the songs off Summertime are? I’m hard pressed to select a favorite off the four track compilation, one which sees Luna Shadows collaborating with a bevy of amazing musicians like Sombear/Now, Now’s Bradley Hale and The Naked And Famous’ Thom Powers.

From sweet sparkling Cry Wolf to the smoggy glam of Hallelujah California and onward to the burning passion of Cherry and the gooey summer intoxication of Waves, Summertime moves the heart and ravishes the soul. As we embark on an extended Independence Day weekend, a holiday that epitomizes summer in America, Luna Shadows serenades us to great heights of heart rending euphoria with her rhapsodic electronic pop. Summertime is the perfectly timed soundtrack to our summer, encompassing all its highs and lows, despair and hope, heartache and joy. As Luna Shadows describes it:

“Summertime is a collection of songs that shift between melancholy, nostalgia, and hopeful sounds. Everything is tied together with sun-kissed imagery and stark juxtapositions: closeness and distance, light and dark, love and loss, idleness and persistence, dancing and stillness. Each song has a different center, but all revolve around various attempts at achieving a sense of unattainable perfection. The title illustrates this in several songs throughout the EP, the most significant perhaps “ready for your eyes / sweet on the inside by your summertime / like cherry”

Congratulations on a stunning debut EP, Luna Shadows, and happiest of birthdays to you. Summertime is available on all major music platforms and can be purchased from iTunes. The EP also comes with a special digital booklet. Luna Shadows has also announced her debut show at School Night in Los Angeles on August 1st.

Luna Shadows is racking them up, three out of three spectacular pop songs, and all within the course of a little over a month, too. The rising Los Angeles starlet engulfs us with fervent and intense passion on new song Cherry, a burning ode to blind desire and desperate love. Luna Shadows explains about the song:

“I wrote ‘Cherry’ to mirror the back-and-forth relationship between love & patience. It’s either absolutely sincere or entirely sarcastic, depending on the circumstances. At first listen, it’s a classic unrequited love song… but there’s a second interpretation in which the lyrics are a dismissive response to being asked to wait around without hope for indefinite periods for the other to be “ready.” Both versions circle back to an underlying obsession with absolute perfection: the tendency to turn inwards in idle moments, and the exhaustion & hysteria that accompany attempts to revise oneself aimlessly and endlessly. ”

One thing’s for sure, there’s no dismissing the powerful allure and stunning vocal talent of Luna Shadows, who co-wrote her latest ballad alongside The Naked And Famous’ Thom Powers and The Chaingang of 1974′s Kamtin Mohager. Sultry, breathy vocals soar brilliantly and tumultuously over the tart nectar of this ripened Cherry. Purchase the single from iTunes, here.

Featured on the NBA Live ‘14 soundtrack is this hypnotic track from Los Angeles rapper ScHoolboy Q. What makes it astoundingly delicious is partly the flow, and largely due to the sampling. The syrupy and intensely confident Man Of The Year samples italo disco act Chromatics’ Cherry. It’s no surprise that Johnny Jewel’s production sounds particularly good paired with rap. It brings out the potentially menacing, Crystal Castles and witch house like aspect of the synths even more.

My gosh, that Johnny Jewel is seriously keeping busy. With a signature lo-fi, colorful video, here’s yet another new Chromatics song, a track off the coming After Dark II compilation filled with Johnny Jewel projects. Cherry is as groovy, dreamy, sweet as any other Chromatics song. It’s a little lighter than some of their usual italo disco tunes, but the extra bit of languid, puffy softness is very welcome.
