Noah and the Whale is a band I’ll miss for all eternity, having fallen head over heels for the Charlie Fink-lead band circa 2009 when they released their second album The First Days Of Spring. I’m infinitely glad that Charlie Fink is still active in the music scene, but it’s been a year since we shared his last dusty folk pop charmer, I Was Born To Be A Cowboy. Well, all my fretting and wondering about when he’d reappear has been put to rest now that Charlie Fink has suddenly surfaced with a new double-A side single. Stream My Heartbeat Lost Its Rhythm above and Anywhere below. Both are massive stunners. Anywhere is a fresh interpretation of Fink’s solo album track ‘Anywhere You’re Going, Is On My Way’ which was originally a delicate folk offering, but Fink has completely re-invented the track with 80s electronic beats and driving synth lines that remind me of Bleachers. My Heartbeat Lost Its Rhythm is also a resplendent thrummer. The song, which Fink recorded in 2015, perfectly complements Anywhere with its soaring synthpop choruses and new wavy flourishes. Of course, at the center of both tracks is Fink’s ever recognizable voice, which always has a special place in my heart. Both voluminous tunes are available, here.

As a massive fan of Noah and the Whale and someone who’s still hurting from their departure from the scene, it was with much joy that I encountered this new Charlie Fink tune. The British singer songwriter and producer goes dusty folk pop on rustic charming I Was Born To Be A Cowboy, which comes accompanied by a light hearted video that takes us to the Old West. The song falls somewhere in between Noah and the Whale albums The First Days of Spring and the more upbeat Last Night on Earth. I Was Born To Be A Cowboy will be in Charlie Fink’s new album Cover My Tracks, arriving June 2nd. Pre-order from his website, here.

OFFICIAL VID: Noah and the Whale – Lifetime

Noah and the Whale’s latest album Heart of Nowhere is still sitting pretty in my car CD changer. The First Days of Spring is my favorite NatW album, but Heart of Nowhere beats out previous album Last Night on Earth in my books. I love how heavily they rely on strings again in the new album, though strings has always been an important part of their repertoire. Heart of Nowhere lies somewhere in between the upbeat pop of the last album and the earlier super folksy sappy music. It’s a versatile release. Album track Lifetime starts off feeling like it’s a tune from Last Night On Earth with its brighter, more cheery sound, yet there’s such major elements of folksy gloominess, particularly in the lyrics. Today saw the release of a video filled with random hodge podginess for the latest single to accompany Charlie Fink’s charming vocals and NatW’s lush instrumentals.

Here’s another goodie I had to check out ASAP before my usual afternoon rounds! As you may know by now, I’m pretty dang fond of British folk rock band Noah and the Whale, and I’m super excited that they have a new album coming out soon titled Heart of Nowhere. They’ve previewed the title track off that album, and the HUGE icing on the cake is that the track features MEGA talented British art rocker and guitarist Anna Calvi! Anna Calvi blew my mind away with her 2011 debut album and her immense guitar genius, quickly proving herself to be one of the BEST female guitarists around. So, yes, it’s pretty dang cool that she duets with Charlie Fink on this track, though it makes me hungry to revisit her solo work and watch some more of her guitar shredding footage. Ah, what a great morning it is with all these wonderful new tracks!

OFFICIAL VID: Noah and the Whale – There Will Come A Time

March 20, 2013

I wasn’t ready yet to launch into sharing goodies with y’all, but just a few short minutes ago, London indie rock band Noah and the Whale posted their first video for the first single off their upcoming new album Heart Of Nowhere. I’m a pretty big NatW fan, so this was something I had to pause everything else for. There Will Come A Time did not disappoint me. The fairly fast paced track is more in the vein of previous album Last Night On Earth, rather than their earlier folksy work (which I love the most). It’s still a delight to hear Charlie Fink again and I’m pretty sure the song’s going to grow on me pretty quickly. I can’t wait to hear the rest of the album!

OFFICIAL VID: Noah and the Whale – Give It All Back

December 2, 2011

NatW

Directed by frontman Charlie Fink himself, here’s the latest music video from Noah and the Whale for the song Give It All Back. I still like NatH’s older, sappier stuff more. But the happier, more upbeat new album did grow on me after some listens. Give it All Back might actually be one of my favorites off Last Night on Earth. On a related note, I caught the trailer for critically acclaimed film The Descendents the other day and was pleasantly surprised to hear one of my favorite NatW songs (Blue Skies).
