You’ll want to take your chances on Montreal’s CHANCES, because the sonic sublime returns are guaranteed. Prepare to be bewitched as the new trio regales us with debut single Shine, an other worldly mixture of tribal clattering baroque pop and whimsical scurrying experimental electro. The band has already drawn comparison to the likes of Aurora, Farao, and Bat For Lashes with their first song, a mesmeric hymnal whose wiry nomadic vocals also remind me of Björk and Dirty Projectors, but laid over a The Knife like bed of aureate glimmering splendor. Shine is majestic and haunting, all at once.

Earlier this month, Minneapolis based rock band Step Rockets released their Future Nature EP, a six track album with many songs we’ve already enjoyed together extensively on IHM. New to our ears is a rip roaring, electro rocking, swagger funking tune named Chances, its Cold War Kids rock meets splashy MGMT dance demeanor much irresistible. Stream Step Rockets’ ace EP in full on Soundcloud. Purchase Future Nature from iTunes.

Honest electro pop song ‘Chances’ by London trio SYKES. The nomadic nature of Chances instantly connected with the group as the Brazilian-British singer Julia recalls; ‘It’s about discovering a city, taking risks and seizing the moment. It was an easy choice for our next single as it’s a reflection on our lives currently as we strive to tour in as many cities as we can.’ I can’t put my finger on who they sound like a cross of – CHVRCHES and Misterwives maybe. Regardless, The ‘Best Thing’ you can do SYKES is to keep taking those ‘Chances’. We’ll keep dancing with you through street lights.
