Meow Meow Lullaby isn’t exactly the latest tune from indie rock veterans Nada Surf, after all it’s been around since just about the time I started getting into the band thanks to my obsession with The OC and its well put together soundtracks at the time.  The NYC four piece also lent the song several years ago to a compilation entitled “For the kids, too” put out by Nettwerk Records to benefit the Lili Claire Foundation, an organization that helps improve the lives of children (and their families) living with neurogenetic birth conditions. But come on, it’s Nada Surf, and it’s a song about cats, and it now has a brand new video with, you guessed it, adorable pussy cats! I couldn’t pass up on sharing! Let’s all meow along to the soothing lullaby as we lay our eyes on some cute felines. Now I can’t wait to go home to my very own clawed fluff ball. You can find Meow Meow Lullaby on iTunes, here.

You Belong To Me is CAT’s very first sultry seductive offering, and if her cherry whiskey soaked vocals sound familiar, it may be due to the fact that she’s one half of British indie pop due The Pierces. Now based out of LA, Catherine Pierce is ready to more than bewitch us with her silky gliding electro inflected alt pop. You Belong To Me’s smoky vintage charm evokes Lana Del Rey but seated in a dusky electronic soundscape. I “belong” to CAT after but one song, and I’m eager to hear what else she has in store for us.

Some huge albums are dropping on September 9th, and I can’t wait for the day even though I’m already falling behind drastically on all the albums that have arrived this summer. Excitement for Grouplove’s next album Big Mess grows as the Southern California quintet continues to reveal new songs. Enlighten Me is the latest such track. Despite the fact that it sounds quite different from usual Grouplove (think larger, arena ready), Enlighten Me is absolutely divine, an uplifting melodic gem that feels expansive and profound, philosophical and deep. Throw in the fact that the visualizer for the audio on Youtube features an animated three eyed kitty cat, and we’ve got one big winner from Big Mess, folks. Pre-order Big Mess ahead of next week’s release on iTunes or from Grouplove’s store.

Japanese artist Housetu Sato’s famous wool felt cat heads have made cameos in many music videos in the past, but there’s always an irresistible charm and allure to seeing the heads once again. Gypsy & The Cat turn to Sato’s giant cat head in the video for their song I Just Wanna Be Somebody Else, too. The adorable image always evokes so much empathy from cat lovers like myself, a fine fit for the Melbourne indie pop veterans’ wistful airy, lilting pensive alt pop song which they describe as an “existential banger”. Not only is the song a catchy treat, but its video adds to the urgency of an immediate re-visit of the gem. I Just Wanna Be Somebody Else will be on Gypsy & The Cat’s new album Virtual Islands, set for release this August.

Ah, yes, Dillon Francis is at it again, and in his own words, this might be the happiest remix he’s ever made in his life. Well, Australian band Strange Talk’s Morning Sun (and many of their other songs) are already some of the most high flying, luminous tunes of recent time. Imagine amping that up even more, and who else should do that, but DIllon Francis? If you need a pick me up, don’t pass up on this remix. If you need a smile, don’t pass up on this remix. Hell, this makes me want to toss tacos and cats all over the place in wild joy (Dillon fans get it, right?).

I just came upon Aussie alternative dance outfit Midnight Juggernauts new video for their single Systematic, and it’s a must share for multiple reasons. The song off their recent album Uncanny Valley is a delightful piece of 60’s throwback psychedelic, disco, dance pop. The video? Well, one word: cats. LOTS of cats. Epic.

This random little treat from Bethany Cosentino of Best Coast is a nice afternoon surprise. I’m already a huge fan of the original Crying by Roy Orbison, as well as the countless other amazing covers other artists have done. In fact, I even love the eerie Spanish version by Llorando in David Lynch’s awesome, brilliant film Mulholland Dr. I gotta say I’m loving this lo-fi cover by Bethany Cosentino too. On top of that, it features Snacks The Cat on backup vocals. Can’t get any better than that. 😉 Snacks!
