Burning Man may be newcomer Watt’s first single, but you might recall his impassioned voice from SNBRN’s Beat The Sunrise, on which he was credited as Andrew Watt. He makes a searing heater of a debut on Burning Man, a jagged snarling seducer featuring Post Malone on guest vocals. Gritty alt rock and granular hip hop strut and prance with assured confidence on this sharp bristling burner. The Los Angeles based artist and producer previously collaborated with Post Malone on Feeling Whitney from his recent album, and he also played guitar for Post’s performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live prior to reuniting on Burning Man. As Watt, he’s ready to light us all on fire. In fact, he already has. You can find the song now on iTunes.

Geez louise, what is up with today? It’s like someone opened the floodgates for new music and tour announcements! You should’ve seen how many tabs I had open all day for vetting, and how long my reminder list of show tickets to purchase grew! Combined with a very busy work day, it’s been rather overwhelming and exhausting. So, let’s get into it! San Francisco ambient producer Tycho revealed another amazing instrumental composition off his upcoming album Awake, out March 18, which I pre-ordered earlier today. Montana is a beautiful and bright second single. Along with the jaw dropping, more contemplative title track Awake, they leave little doubt that the coming release is going to be a magical album to rival 2011’s Dive. I still regret not getting to see Tycho at Burning Man last year, and I really do hope I’ll get to hear Scott Hansen’s fantastical music there this year. At sunrise. Yes. Please.

San Francisco ambient IDM wizard Tycho dropped a new one today to an unsurprisingly large amount of fanfare. Awake is a beautiiful, downtempo track filled with more guitar and polish than usual for Scott Hansen’s repertoire. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Tycho play several times in the past few years, and I can only imagine how fantastic this tune would be to hear live. Funny thing, but I briefly thought I was going to be able to see Tycho’s sunrise set at Burning Man a couple months ago. I amped my camp up with the news, only to find out I read my schedule booklet wrong and he had already played his sunrise set a day prior to our arrival. Sorry, camp! Tycho would’ve been magical paired with sunrise at Burning Man. Maybe next year? Awake would be a fitting tune for it!

Stitches

June 14, 2013

Veteran Chicago experimental rockers Califone have a long catalog of albums, though the last album was from back in 2009. They’re about to release their latest album, Stitches, on September 3, and they’ve previewed the title track off the coming release. It’s a droning, morose beauty that left me hungering for far more. The song also features Jessie Stein of The Luyas on vocals. This is one I want to blast while driving down some desert road… perhaps I should keep that in mind come Burning Man this year. I think another essential album to bring for some quiet muse filled moments is Boards of Canada’s Tomorrow’s Harvest. Maybe I can incite a listening party out in the middle of some more deserted area of Black Rock City. Good idea, no?

Ugh, I apologize for having to delay sharing anything despite seeing a goodie as great as this ready to be enjoyed by all. I’ve been busting butt since noon with my friends trying to get Burning Man tickets. 😉 Anyway, enough about that stressful bit. Back to the topic at hand. The Strokes have revealed a new song. All The Time is the lead single from their coming new album Comedown Machine. It sounds signature, typical The Strokes, unlike One Way Trigger, the other new song we’ve heard from em so far. It’s deliciously satisfying for all the people craving some good ol’ The Strokes. Their fifth studio album comes out on March 26 on RCA Records. For those that missed dance punk-y One Way Trigger or want to relisten again, let’s go…
