Do you remember TUSKA? Of course you do. The Brighton outfit, consisting of multi-instrumentalists Richard Sturges and Rob Weaver, cast quite the psychedelic rock spell over us last year when they released their single We Could Be Alone. They’ve finally returned with a new piece named Brother, and it’s another captivating dose of their spacey spiraling Unknown Mortal Orchestra meets Tame Impala kind of kaleidoscopic and introspective rock. The duo have been championed by the likes of 6music, Radio 1, LOBF & DIY since we last heard from them. They take us to a dreamy utopia with this cosmic new song, described as a conversation between two friends on a night out, embodying the feeling of camaraderie and love we can only convey with our inhibitions are lowered. We’ve all been there. I know I have… A few drinks loosens the lips and opens the heart. Brothers is out now via all major digital retailers.

UK three piece Little Giants recently unleashed a fine new original named Brother (alongside some fabulous covers, which you can find on their Soundcloud, here). Brother’s tropical alt pop and breezy indie electronica is now accompanied by an endearing music video. This VHS styled array of home video clips offers us a rather intimate look at the band’s members. Little Giants explains that Brother was written at a difficult time for the band, when Sam was diagnosed with cancer within a week of their receiving a major record deal, resulting in an unfathomably emotional juxtaposition. It’s no wonder Brother is such a lifting and inspiring piece on top of being such an infectious anthem. Single can be purchased from iTunes, here.

Sweeping and vast alt pop lifts me to the skies and beyond on Brother’s Mobbin. The luminous song comes from a new four piece from Kansas City who are preparing to release a debut EP. Together, the unsigned fellows make ambient and uplifting music, as can be heard on richly building, infectiously arresting Mobbin. Brother’s influences includes Chvrches, The 1975, Passion Pit, St. Lucia, Usher, and Kanye West. Many of these are evident on Mobbin’s luscious drums, resplendent synths, and pulsating beats. Mobbin glows without pretense, a fabulously enrapturing debut introduction to the band. Head to Soundcloud to download the song for free.

Little Deed began as an acoustic bedroom project, but  the Sydney based artist has combined the dynamic nuances of industrial electronic sounds and the stirring, earnest qualities of acoustic instrumentation on her more recent work. This union of the two ends on this sonic spectrum has resulted in haunting, raw beauty, as can be heard on Little Deed’s new song Brother, a rich trip pop gem reminiscent of crisply captivating London Grammar and darkly simmering Poliça.

Maybe because I had a crazy end of 2015, or maybe because it’s a mellow rainy day, but quite a number of tunes I’ve selected for today’s features are chill and melting. Take for example, this beautiful folk debut named Brother from a new act from Australia named Jack The Fox. Fall in love, as I did, to its gentle strums. It’s softly vibrating guitar strings tremble at the same frequency as my tenderly tugged heart strings as the duo serenade me with the Angus & Julia Stone meets Ben Howard gem, speckled with a very slight hint of Alt-J and some melodically melancholic Bear’s Den. They’ll leave you in a heap of sighs with this debut. The acoustic folk, blues, and roots duo is made up of two school friends who grew up on the South Victorian Coast. They’ve been playing music together for circa 2 years, but only recently started recording their music in a self built studio in a cellar.

Norwegian band Supersoaker will be releasing their four track debut EP, While Holding On, this Friday, September 11th, and IHM is elated to premiere the opening track, Caught Up In The Winds. Like previously shared EP song Brother, Caught Up In The Winds is a brightly infectious melodic treat, a perfectly airy and weightless gem to soundtrack the last days of a waning summer as we slowly transition into autumn. Caught Up In The Winds is a sparkling dose of nostalgia, a dream pop meets synthpop ambler that carries a touch of beachy surf pop. It’s a feather caught in a breeze, a twinkling dash of stardust floating on a cloud of mist, longing to be free of the current it glides on, so bittersweet yet soothing. A peppy radiance reminiscent of Urban Cone mingles with a Day Wave like shimmering languor on the mellow and reflective beauty. If you missed the lead single from While Holding On earlier this year, stream pulsing, entrancing Brother below, a driving anthem that blooms like a synthwavey blend of Peter Bjorn and John and The Royal Concept. Look out for Supersoaker’s excellent debut EP later this week, which was produced by Norwegian label Koke Plate’s CEO, Kristian N. Harnes (also produced for Pony The Pirate, Supermale, co-produced with Simen Mitlid).

Brother is some incredibly sleek and smooth electronic pop music from a Norwegian band named Supersoaker. It’s only the new act’s third song, but it’s the first single from an upcoming EP. Brother, set for release on Koke Plate come April 27th, is an instantly infectious heart warmer. The quartet’s slilck harmonies and colorful, bright melody are full of sugary pop and dance ready beats. The song starts off reminding me of a far more synthwavey Peter Bjorn and John, before it commences to bring in loads of other fellow Scandinavian indie pop acts, ie. Robyn, Urban Cone, The Royal Concept, and so forth.

Newly emerging UK producer Cold Courage weaves soundscapes of pure beauty and heady effervescence. New track Brother is a prime example of that imaginative craftiness. He puts his works of art together by deconstructing obscure vinyls, YouTube clips, iPhone memos, and tapes, while manipulating synthesizers and blending in live instruments. The end result, as you can hear on Brother, is a full on explosion of intricate, haunting sound. It’s a very unique and entrancing approach on music, and Cold Courage’s many influences, including Jon Hopkins and Four Tet, are apparent on the experimental electronic track. Brother is off Cold Courage’s debut EP,  Her, out April 20th via his own label.

NEEDTOBREATHE – Brother feat. Gavin DeGraw

January 31, 2015

As I mentioned about a year ago, NEEDTOBREATHE is a South Carolina Christian alt rock band that’s quite popular in certain parts of the nation, but they were a very nice surprise for this San Francisco Bay native the day I stumbled upon them. They return to sweep me off my feet with another gorgeous Southern rock tinged alt ballad. It’s a new version of their single Brother, which features none other than Gavin DeGraw. The luminous, lofty tune is an infectious treat, reminiscent of a more heartland country flavored Young The Giant. The new Brother will be available at all digital retailers on Monday, February 2nd. The original version is off NEEDTOBREATHE’s album River In The Wasteland from 2014.

November 4, 2014

Come November 7, Swedish indie pop band Last Lynx will be releasing their Rifts EP, via SoFo Records, and they’ve revealed a delightfully upbeat and popping new treat off the EP. Brother is a bright, lively, and rocking track, drawing in with its infectious hooks and foot tapping, hand clapping rhythm. It joins synthier and moodier EP gems like Curtains and Lacuna, tunes I’ve loved since earlier this year. Revisit those below.
