lovelytheband made a resounding debut last year with Broken, a song I’d likely never tire of due to its vibrant synths and infectious melody. Every time I hear it, I fall in love all over again with the LA trio’s tribute to “the broken ones”. It also reminds me of a very magical moment at SXSW this year. It was past midnight, I was exhausted, and I really needed to use the restroom. Friends were buying food at food trucks, so I rain into the Main II to use their bathroom. As I stepped back out, who else might be on stage but lovelytheband, and what song might they be performing but Broken! I was so elated, I stopped by the stage to take in the song even though I was supposed to rush back out to the street. That was fate. It had to be. lovelytheband recently returned with a brand new song to obsess over named ‘these are my friends’. It’s just as infectious a new alt pop and indie rock track on which we can all wax affectionate over our friends together. ‘these are my friends’ is already well on its way to being one of this summer’s chart-climbing anthems. You can also stream the song on Spotify, here.

My heart literally skipped more than a beat earlier this afternoon when I happened to come across news of a new song from Patrick Watson. The Montreal based singer songwriter has been a respected member of the music scene since the early 2000′s, but it was around 2011, just before the release of his full length Adventures In Your Own Backyard, that I happened upon his music and fell ever deeply in love with his exquisite orchestral and folk steeped sound. Broken seems to be Patrick’s first song since 2015 album Love Songs For Robots. It arrives by way of music video, and it’s an exquisitely moving ballad that sees Patrick Watson bridging the halcyon beauty of early James Vincent McMorrow and the dynamic ambiance of Ben Howard, with perhaps a bit of BANNERS, Aquilo, and Vancouver Sleep Clinic’s effusive, expansive sentimentality mixed in, too. Broken near leaves me broken with its beauty. Patrick Watson calls it a one off he wanted to share before his next record, and he dedicates the song to the storms we went through. You can get the single, here.

Those gifted Dutch producers are at it again, doling out shiver inducing beauty on a brilliant new original named Broken. DROELOE and San Holo team up on the dreamy future bass and chillstep aria, which features crystalline enchanting vocals by CUT_. I can’t help but picture wind chimes swaying in a soft entrancing, cool billowing breeze. If anything’s broken here, it’s me, into a million pieces by this heartrending gem. The effervescent electronic track is out on bitbird. You can also stream Broken on Spotify, here.

It was but half a year ago that DNMO first captured our attention with a defiant gripping, bold exhilarating remix of MOONZz’s Wonder. He’s since been creating massive waves with his music, even linking up with Oakland’s KRANE on massive track Sakura. On new song Broken, the gifted English producer links up with captivating vocalist Sub Urban to give us a Flume meets What So Not like thriller bursting with dark stumbling, acerbic bristling brilliance. Broken is ominous and haunting, twisted and scathing, in such a deliciously gratifying manner. You can purchase the single from major outlets, here.

We make our way back to California as a new alt trio named lovely.the.band vies for the trophy for best punctuated band name from the likes of, say…  Portugal. the Man, or one of the many projects that add a “.” to the end of their names. They make a hearty entrance with a lyric video for their first song, Broken, a song which the three piece from LA describe as being about: “finding someone who is just as f—ed up and lost as you are, but somehow you make it work together. Everyone is a little inside, nobody’s perfect. This is an ode to the broken ones.” Well, gee, thanks for making a song for me, lovely.the.band! Broken is an alt pop treat that pairs MGMT-like spry synths with Grouplove and Smallpools-like spirited hooks. It’s an irresistible recipe that you’ll be addicted to straight away. The new project will be heading out on tour this summer, and we’ll be blessed with more new music soon, too!

Broken is an epic alliance that brings together so many amazing artists. The stirring electronic anthem comes by way of Austin duo Tritonal and NYC’s Jenaux, but it also features vocally gifted American Idol superstar Adam Lambert. Broken was also written by New York R&B pop talent Lauv and his buddy Madison Emiko. As I said, this melodically endearing, honeyed glowing summer dance hit is the result of some phenomenal teamwork. It’s also a smorgasbord of electronica, its glimmering pieces formed from a prismatic palette ranging from electro to progressive house, all stippled copiously with with buoyant future vibes and effervescent pop. Broken will be on Tritonal’s Painting With Dreams album, out September 9th on Enhanced Music. Pre-order from iTunes.

Florida based synthpop duo Priest, once known as X priest X, already dropped one of my favorite airy synth tunes of the year, The Game. On new track Broken, they continue to melt me with their atmospheric glow, haunting synths, and sugary vocals. The dreamy, fluffy electronic pop song is the second single from their self titled debut album, due out May 5th via Swedish label Emotion. Broken is like a Beach House-y CHVRCHES tune with a bit of a dark, pulsing Chromatics, or even Lynchian, edge, and I find that incredibly delectable.

OFFICIAL VID: Daley – Broken

August 26, 2013

Late last year, a British crooner named Daley caught my attention due to his collaboration Remember Me with Jessie J. I was immediately impressed with the artist who’s already a huge hit back in his home country. The guy has silky smooth vocals and some easy mainstream appeal. His latest single is Broken, which features that wonderful voice over a drum and bass roll and a catchy, emotional pop melody. Oh, and don’t forget those gorgeous strings. Watch the purty video below. Broken will be on Daley’s debut album Days & Night, which comes out later this year in the UK.

OFFICIAL VID: Jake Bugg – Broken

English folk musician Jake Bugg has already made a heckuva name for himself in the UK. Today, he released a brand new video for his single Broken. On top of that, he actually re-recorded the track in a studio in Malibu with Rick Rubin producing. The original recording was on his 2012 self titled debut album. Broken is a heartwrenching beauty.
