Disclosure + Lorde + AlunaGeorge at BRIT Awards

February 20, 2014

I’ll close out the session for now with this immense performance from the BRIT Awards earlier. It’s a combo of three acts I’ve been professing love for endlessly this past year or two. Lorde performed Royals while Disclosure mashed in beats from White Noise. Of course, as Lorde finished up her vocals, who else steps out, but Aluna of AlunaGeorge to do a full on performance of one of the earliest Disclosure tunes that I fell in love with? I need to find time to check out all the other performances from the BRIT Awards. I read that Rudimental performed with Bastille. I gotta see that. Someone fly me to the BRIT Awards next year? Thanks.

Emeli Sande + Kendrick Lamar?!

March 6, 2013

In other awesome mind blowing news, Emeli Sande has teamed up with rapper Kendrick Lamar for a new remix version of her hit song Next To Me! Tooooo cool! I’ve been an Emeli fan for a long time now, happily watching as she performed at the Olympics closing and opening ceremonies, waiting to catch her live patiently. I had tickets to her sold out SF show last year for a long time, but the November show was subsequently postponed to February this year. But boy, was it WORTH the wait. WORTH it.

Coincidentally, I just received the concert dvd recording of her show at the Royal Albert Hall yesterday and was watching it last night. That is one helluva venue. On top of that, Emeli Sande just won best female artist and ALBUM OF THE YEAR in the UK at the Brit Awards! I’m still giddy with glee that I caught her at the Independent in San Francisco up close and personal. I mean, come on, she’s selling out the ROYAL ALBERT HALL! Sheesh! Her vocals are incredible live and any recording cannot do it justice.

So, here it is, her team up with Kendrick Lamar to add to her increasing stateside presence. I much prefer the original tune on her debut album Our Version of Events, but this is pretty cool too and it’ll bring a lot more attention for her on this side of the pond. Weird how an artist could be that huge elsewhere, and Americans haven’t caught on yet. I guess that’s what happened with Adele too, though. Random fun fact: Emeli’s real first name is Adele.
