East Coast beat alchemist and song sorcerer LZRD has taken Krewella’s massively infectious hit single Be There a sky scraping, mountainous climbing, and wildly lifting remix with ridiculously euphoric drops. The vast sprawling, panoramic soaring edit is but more evidence of this rising producer’s talent. One listen and you’ll be hooked on LZRD’s dynamic and explosive take. He doesn’t dawdle at launching us straight into a feel good thrill ride, complete with beautiful vistas to catch our breaths and high voltage breaks to leave us gasping for air once again. Download the magnificent future bass and electro trap remix, here.

Like a blast from the past comes this new edit of Frou Frou classic Let Go, which was certainly a transformative track for me back in the early 2000′s. Though Frou Frou didn’t last long, I went on to become quite obsessed with Imogen Heap. It’s mighty fine to hear her voice again as Aylen gives Let Go a superb remix that takes the song into breakbeat and dubstep territory. Frou Frou has never been more gloriously cathartic on this metallic shuddering, bass wobbling remix, yet the producer also manages to retain the original’s sleek groove and melodic allure. Grab the remix for free, here.

Earlier this week, Brisbane duo ODD MOB really “mobbed” things up with a wicked new EP named DIFFUSION. The four track release is a scintillating “diffusion” indeed, a brain melting, heart pounding, skin tingling array of genre melding bass house expertise. Opening track Lithium is an acid tinged, drum & bass laced, trance inflected effusion of tangy synths and rolling bass. The psychological state I find myself in is befitting of the track’s name. Lithium is almost numbing in its hypnosis, yet I feel every little jab and prick so palpably as I surrender myself to this sonic drug. You can stream ODD MOB’s stellar DIFFUSION EP in full on Soundcloud or download for free, here.

Last spring, alt dance and industrial rock quintet AWOLNATION followed up on their groundbreaking debut album Megalithic Symphony with a long awaited sophomore album named Run. The solid release is chock full of incredible tunes that push the boundaries of electronic rock. The title track off Run is a dark hypnotic thriller, a steady marching yet aggro thrusting anthem. That simmer snarling tune has been remixed by a plethora of production talent,. These edits come together to form AWOLNATION’s forthcoming Run (Remixes) EP, off which comes a magnificent edit by San Francisco’s own HIGHSOCIETY. This is a hyper fueled track whose release I’ve been eagerly awaiting ever since I heard it on Bay Area radio station Live 105′s Subsonic programming. HIGHSOCIETY’s Run is gripping intense, a turbulent inferno of breakbeat, trap, and dubstep. Forget that coffee, all you need this morning is some jarring abrasive, jolting exhilarating HIGHSOCIETY. I’ve yet to take it with me on the trails, but I have a feeling HIGHSOCIETY’s adrenaline pumping remix of AWOLNATION’s Run can keep you moving for an eternity. Look out for the Run (Remixes) EP, which will also include remixes by ROBOKID, Dan The Automator, Mike D, and Steve Aoki.

London based newcomer Dakota Sixx bursts onto the scene with a spectacular double single, off which comes fiery searing dark R&B and gritty garage ballad Innocence. The electronic artist makes a strong impression with her resolute song. Innocence was inspired by a bitter ending of a toxic relationship. The song’s breakbeat and grime inflected electronic soundscape is dark intoxicating while Dakota Sixx’s smoky dulcet delivery recalls the intense gripping vocal brilliance of Banks. The other track that rounds out Dakota Sixx’s double single is Lost Ya, also an atmospheric haunting piece, though much more propulsive bouncing of an electronic number. Stream below. Innocence/Lost Ya will be on Dakota Sixx’s forthcoming Innocence EP, out July 29th via The Sound Of Everything UK.

Obviously, a Kaytranada remix of Jamie Woon music is going to take us to new heights of silken pleasure. If you feel like floating up to cloud nine, submerge yourself in this underground ready remix of Sharpness. The Montreal producer’s laid back groove, jazzy funk, and clattering breakbeats are luxuriantly hypnotic and velveteen smooth. BADBADNOTGOOD turns in an alluring performance on those breakbeat drums. My only complaint is that this remix has been in existence since 2015, and we’re only hearing it now. Thank goodness it’s seen the light of day, or rather, the glow of a streetlamp at night.

Just yesterday, Amy Winehouse would’ve turned thirty two. Yes, it was the tragic artist’s birthday. Instead, as we all know, she’s joined the legendary 27 club. British electronic act Digital Farm Animals offers up a proper tribute, intentional or coincidental, via an immensely breathtaking remix of Ms. Winehouse’s Stronger Than Me. In fact, this is the ONLY official remix of a song approved by her family since her passing. It’s a near gutwrenching experience, taking into account the lyrics of the song, Amy’s striking vocals, and the melancholia tinged, reflective atmosphere of the track. Digital Farm Animals’ expert adaptation is an ambient electronica, melodic trip hop, and entrancing breakbeat work of art. This leaves me at one of those special music moments where I can’t help but utter “magic”.

OFFICIAL VID: John Newman – Come And Get It

June 2, 2015

There are few soulful voices as powerful as John Newman’s, and it’s quite the treat when the English artist drops a new single. Lest you forgot, John Newman first blew us away with his fantastic voice on Rudimental hits Feel The Love and Not Giving In before he dropped his 2013 debut album Tribute, an album that was far overlooked and underrated here on this side of the pond. I had the pleasure of catching John in a small club for Popscene and he was incredible on stage. John then followed that up with smash hit Blame with Calvin Harris, so really, he’s quite responsible for some magnificent tunes these past couple of years. New single Come And Get It, out July 18th on Island Records, storms right back with plenty of John Newman’s signature, exhilarating soul pop. With the soaring new single and its video comes the news that a sophomore album is on its way!

You would think, after all the incredibly intoxicating jams that Autograf has given us, that we’d know exactly what to expect from the act, despite their proving their versatility plenty times over in the past. Yet, here I am again, with my jaw agape. The trio from Chicago goes in a whole new direction on their latest, an official remix of Fat Boy Slim’s Mad Flava. The remix, which wil lbe released on June 1st as part of a 15 year anniversary reissue of the legend’s platinum album Halfway Between The Gutter And The Stars, is a stunning concoction of breaks and funk. These Autograf fellas are seriously production magicians, able to pull all sorts of riveting electronic sound out of their sleeves. As Fatboy Slim quipped: “Autograf got the finesse, they got the funk, they got the flava. The three F’s right there…”. You got that right, Slim. Of course, what would Autograf be without those marimbas? They add yet another layer of summery, Balearic awesomeness to the remix. This is one of those remixes that gives and gives and gives, with plenty of intricate detail to notice afresh with each new listen.

Autograf is back with a new remix to start up their Future Nites series, Issue 1, and the Chicago production act has chosen Serbian-Austrian producer Dirty South’s mega hit Unbreakable for their edit. Unlike all the amazing songs we’ve heard from Autograf this past summer (and into the fall), they stray away from future tropical dreaminess, heading into far deeper and darker recesses. Heavy bass, hypnotic synths, and a luscious, woozy, breakbeat tinged atmosphere… It puts Unbreakable in a whole new, sumptuous light, or… shadow.
