Last month, we listened to a song from a new electronic artist out of London named CULKIIN which left us in deep meditative thought. Head evokes those long blurry nights out, when memories over the course of many hours start to bleed into one another, leaving you questioning your life and what’s to come when the sun comes up. Surprisingly, it’s this rather existential tune that Hippie Sabotage has chosen for their latest flip. The California duo give the song a droopy nebulous, syrupy viscous makeover that takes it into future vibes territory, one tactfully infused with a breakbeats percussive roll. Their approach on Head befits the mind trip tendencies of the song to a tee. It goes Straight To My Head

It’s back to Sydney we go as the shadowy darkness of BUOY’s Clouds & Rain slowly seduces us with its stern crawl and riveting skitters. A restless break of cascading beats & drums slice through the song’s initial desperate slink, like the burst of rainfall, its stormy release a buildup of fervent passion. BUOY’s tactile song carries the form and friction of James Blake, her voice growing in urgency alongside its massively billowing, frenetically erupting soundscape. The song literally carries us away with it, an overwhelming river of emotion that comes from BUOY’s forthcoming Break EP, to be released later this year on October Records.

When Sacramento duo Hippie Sabotage chooses to remix or flip your tune, it’s like a mark of honor and approval, a sign of good times to come. So, it’s no surprise but such a delight that the duo have chosen Illinoise newcomer Kiiara’s ace debut Gold for their latest remix. They take the glitchy pop song and give it a more airy and entrancing atmosphere, a downtempo allure drenched in a heavier mystique and plenty of breaking, skittery, drum and bass like beats. The haunting remix is a fresh alternate approach on Gold.

We’ve all heard and likely loved Gnarls Barkley’s timeless Crazy, a billion times over in past years. It’s Cee-Lo’s best work ever, in my opinion, with the ever brilliant Danger Mouse, to boot. But I bet you’ve never heard it this way. British producer Krafty Kuts drops a cover of the classic, which he calls Going Crazy, and its a killer track, with plenty of funky, glitchy elements and some gratifying break beats and wonky bass. It’s a gloriously dizzying re-imagining.

When I first noticed that Venezuelan producer Arca had dropped a sick new track earlier today, I also noticed that everyone was saying “Kanye’s producer” has released a new one. Well, okay, that’s true, but I’d like to remind you all that Arca is also the mastermind behind many of FKA Twigs’ amazing tracks. Let’s not define him by “Kanye” and only “Kanye”, shall we? He showcases his eccentric blend of break beats, drum and bass, and eerie, tweaky futuristic sound on Thievery, a track off his forthcoming album Xen, available November 4 on Mute.

Swedish producer Tobtok’s song Higher, which features Emil Hero of indie pop band Urban Cone, is such a delectably catchy dance track, that we seem to be getting a slow, endless stream of superb remixes. Perhaps producers can’t resist the infectious song, which also seems to translate so well in remixes. The latest remix to catch my ear is Canadian producer Avenue’s grooving take, who gives the nu-disco flavored jam some extra disco funk and some satisfying break beats and futuristic bass. It’s almost C2C-ish, in some ways, and anything that reminds me of C2C, even by this inkling, deserves some love.

Boys Noize has been super duper busy producing music for all kind of big artists for awhile now, but finally, the German producer has plans to release another solo LP. Out Of The Black will drop on October 2. Here’s a first taste off that album, What You Want, and boy is it a wicked electro house track with some traditional break beats and techno vocals. There’s something very old school about it. I can picture some B-boys mad tearing it up to this track. Way to bring it home, Alexander Ridha.
