A few years ago, we knew Spencer Ludwig as the dashing trumpet guy in Capital Cities. Fast forward to today, and the fast rising vocalist/instrumentalist is quickly etching out his own space in the indie scene as a solo artist. Spencer embarks on the next phase of that career with the release of his latest single, Just Wanna Dance, an utterly infectious eruption of disco funk imbued glittery pop. Of course, no Spencer Ludwig track is complete without some jocular trumpet solos to keep us grooving. The only thing left to do is to get up and dance the night away to the fresh and funky treat. The rest of 2018 is going to be massive for Spencer Ludwig. YouTube chose him as one of ten acts for their prestigious “Artists In Residence” program. He kicked off the year opening for The Chainsmokers and Jason Derulo, and he just wrapped up his tour with Betty Who, but he’ll be performing at Bonnaroo and so much more in the coming months, too. Just Wanna Dance is available, here.

Nas & Ginuwine’s 1999 hip hop and R&B classic Owe Me gets the snazzy chic treatment by Midas Hutch on a fresh and funky, brassy and groovy flip, and I can’t stop dancing to the juicy plump jam. It’s the perfect way to feel cool while I celebrate another W under my Golden State Warriors’ belt (though I feel bad for Dunn’s face plant). The swagger is strong on this throwback banger, which more than tides us over while we await Midas Hutch’s new EP, which he promises is almost done. Download the dashing electro disco funk track, here.

We’ve been touting Portugal. the Man’s Feel It Still as one of the best tracks of the year, so it’s been very vindicating to watch my favorite American psych rock band get nominated for a Grammy for the funky swaggering jam, which has now become the most ubiquitous and omnipresent hit of 2017. Over the course of the past several months, an insane amount of ridiculously good remixes of Feel It Still have surfaced in the music scene. But there’s always room for one more brilliant rendition, particularly when its this edit by NYC’s Jenaux. Feel It Still gets some chill dreamy feels on the languorous future funk re-work. It’s a brassy playful, jazzy chic romp with smooth glossy corners and luscious synths. Grab it for free, here.

I was sold from the beginning of Rewind, when those flirty trumpets and Ashe’s sassy sweet voice enticed us into Louis Futon’s new single. Rewind, which also features Philadelphia hip hop artist Armani White on guest vocals, is quite the funky soulful, brassy playful summer treat. No day can be glum and no night can be bleak when you’re swaying in bliss to this effulgent dalliance, whose spry keys and whimsical beats will leave you beaming in jubilation. Lucky for us, we don’t have to “rewind” before we get to hit the play button once again once the youthful and coltish song ends far too soon. Rewind is a free download, here. Support on iTunes, here.
