I never would have guessed that Brooklyn’s Yoke Lore and LA based SF production maestro Blackbird Blackbird would “meet” on a track, but it’s happened, and the resulting remix is more than divine. Blackbird Blackbird has given Adrian Galvin’s World Wings a gorgeous re-work, and it’s a transcendental experience, an atmospheric sprawling, euphoric wafting electronic take on the indie pop song. I suppose you could call this rendering an ambient future bass transformation, replete with fleecy synths and stratospheric beats. The luminous remix floats us up into the clouds, where we drift and glide, as if riding on soft folds of velutinous cotton.

It’s been awhile since we’ve heard from San Francisco’s own Blackbird Blackbird, who’s joined that constant north to south migration and now resides in Los Angeles. Mikey re-surfaces with a fresh new remix, a cosmic enchanting future bass remix of enigmatic French electro-symphonic composer AstroVoyager’s beautiful tune, Architect. Blackbird Blackbird proves himself the ever adept sonic architect with this cinematic opera, a gripping yet breathtaking capitalization of AstroVoyager’s fluid yet florid amalgamation of the orchestral and the electronic. The remix rolls majestically and glides celestially, taking us on a fantastical and expressive voyage. The original comes from AstroVoyager’s new EP, scheduled for release October 21st via CosmXploreR.

I HEART MOOSIQ PREMIERE:

It’s been far too long since we’ve heard from Vancouver based Bear Mountain. What better way for them to make a return than to offer up a luscious remix of San Francisco producer Blackbird Blackbird’s Tangerine Sky? It’s a great choice for a remix, if you ask me, considering how much I love the original. Bear Mountain takes the beautifully ambient original and raises its uptempo energy level with some crisp bass and pumping beats. The glowing deep house remix of Tangerine Sky is still wistful, dreamy, and ethereal, but it’s also smoothly buoyant and sublimely uplifting, creating a sudden urge in me to dance with reckless, carefree abandon. The Tangerine Sky remix is but a taste of much to come soon. Bear Mountain has a new album of original material in the works for release this Fall, titled BADU. They also have a DJ residency in LA in progress. The monthly party, also named BADU, features special guests every week. The first edition featured Hercules and the Love Affair vocalist Whitney Fierce, while this Friday, February 27th, disco king / Stones Throw artists Chrome Canyon will be joining in on the festive action at Golden Box in Los Angeles. More info can be found here: lastgangevents.com. I can’t wait to hear Bear Mountain’s new original music. I have a feeling I’ll be sharing it here, on IHM.

San Francisco’s own talented Blackbird Blackbird dropped a bubbly, effervescent treat named Sakura, taken from a new EP to be released this spring. The playful electronic jam brings on an immense sense of nostalgia and wist, taking me back to my younger years when I used to play a lot more Japanese video games and watch a lot more Japanese anime. Underneath the airiness, there’s a melancholic tint to the track, reminding me of what I rarely have time for now and creating a yearning for times more innocent and carefree. Sakura is a much enchanting and weightless trap hued shimmering gem.

Talented San Francisco producer Blackbird Blackbird dropped a riveting remix of ILOVEMAKKONEN’s Tuesday, featuring Drake. While it’s no secret that I’m not the most devoted ILOVEMAKKONEN fan, I’ve found myself falling in love with a lot of the remixes that have reared their heads recently, including this intoxicating, shimmering, buoyant gem. Blackbird Blackbird says to cop it while you can, since he’ll likely be taking down the track soon. If you’re in the mood for something hyped up and caffeinated to perk you up, particularly after some of my last somber features, this will be like a fresh cup of joe.

Blackbird Blackbird weaves a tapestry of pastel dreaminess and ephemeral wispiness on his brilliantly named new track Pastel Heaven. It’s a beautiful song reminding me of some of the music off the San Francisco producer’s excellent Tangerine Sky album. Despite its blissful, vaporous qualities, there’s an underlying melancholy and woefulness to the sparkling ambient electronic gem. Blackbird Blackbird wrote the song while in a pensive mood during his flight home after three months on tour. The profound depth of the deceivingly airy tune is much apparent.

Back home to San Francisco I go with a dazzling and spectacular new song from talented producer Blackbird Blackbird. From the get go, Young, which features beautiful vocals from SoCal artist Britt Warner, grips me in its vice with ethereal, pulsing, organic production. Young literally glows with a vibrancy and immaculate vitality that lives up to its youthful name. The incredible, engrossing release made its debut on Major Tendons, a mixtape curated by Poet/Writer Melissa Broder. Excuse me as I try to catch my breath from these sounds oscillating vigorously through the whole of my being.

I have a few late night treats for you to wrap up the day, since I had to run out the door earlier and cut my share session short. San Francisco producer Blackbird Blackbird keeps on impressing me with his tunes lately, having released a fantastic album in the form of Tangerine Sky earlier this year, filled with dreamy, ambient electronic music that reminded me of another brilliant San Francisco producer, Tycho, but more effervescent and buoyant at times. Tangerine Sky was the perfect soundtrack for our summer, but now that summer is slowly wrapping up (noooooo!), Blackbird Blackbird gives us a tribute to the end of summer, aptly titled Memories. It’s a beautiful song that celebrates the joys, mistakes, and, hopefully, lack of regrets of the past few months. It was all a part of life, a part of our memories now. Thanks for encapsulating all of that within this dreamy, tropics tinged, radiant, and free-spirited song, Blackbird Blackbird.
