And now we dive into our first Christmas cover of this holiday set, and what an extraordinary one it is, too! Young Billie Marten has been impressing us with her beautiful voice and mature sound this past year, and she lends that magnificence to White Christmas, turning the classic into a gently flickering, tender melting folk rock meets bedroom pop drifter. It’s not only a haunting effect, but it also stirs the aching caverns of the heart. Dreaming of a white Christmas has never felt more spectral blue and wispy sentimental.

What a tender voice, beautifully minimalist song, and excellent progression of a story that syncs well with the lyrical content of Billie Marten’s Bird. We focus on a women who is lost in a world her own. A house vacant day and night with the exception of her. She wanders out to the road where there’s no people or cars passing by. Finally we arrive at a lake that surrounded by mountains. She’s sheltered from a world and takes a cleansing dip into the water.

This is the lead single off her four track EP ‘As Long As’ which is slated to come out November 13th.

It’s hard to believe that Billie Marten is only 15 years old. The talented new singer songwriter recently signed to Chess Club Records after dropping some amazing covers, which I highly recommend you check out on her Soundcloud. Her new original, Heavy Weather, which premiered on Annie Mac’s R1 show in the UK earlier this week, is a spectacularly beautiful folk song. Set for release May 25th, it will raise goosebumps with its raw poignancy and haunting earnestness. Even more impressively, the track was recorded in one take. There’s a pureness to the soulful, acoustic tune that drives straight for the heart.
