Firemaid is without a doubt one of my favorite new discoveries from late last week, and I’ve been fidgeting endlessly with excitement to share the project’s first single. Not only does the artist behind Firemaid hail from the Bay Area, but she’s known for her role as one half of indie duo Bows. Her solo debut single This Is How I Love is breathtaking, a beautifully sprawling, panoramic soaring slice of grandiose indie pop. This Is How I Love is full of wonder. It’s like a great crashing wave, splendorous and regal, relentless and all encompassing. It’s a celebration, a triumphant shout from the the highest mountain peak… “This is how I love!” Somehow, Firemaid’s exultant announcement frees our own hearts, too. We strive, ever so eagerly and ambitiously, to love as grandly, as majestically, as Firemaid does.

The Bay is more than proud to harbor talent like Amp Live, the alt hip hop DJ and producer who’s given us plenteous music over the years both solo and as one half of Zion I.  Amp Live just blessed us with a new six track EP named Atmosphere on Gravitas Recordings, from which comes this tensely wound ambient future bass epic named Blessings featuring Lana Shea. Finely textured and full of zigzag surprises, Blessings is a riveting and exhilarating listen. Our heads are truly “in the heavens” as we’re carried away by this surging, flickering extravaganza. Amp Live’s new EP is available now from Bandcamp, here. Alternate stream of Blessings can be found below via Soundcloud.

Lost Boy was one of those chance encounters that left me intrigued as to who this new artist might be, but my deep digging and heavy trawling only offered up a tiny bit of information about the project. The silky crooner hails from right here in the Bay, and he has an EP out on Los Angeles label On Planes named Big Bang. The title track is a saccharine melting gem, a honeyed R&B pop and vibrant electro pop shot straight for the center of my heart. Though a tender ballad, Big Bang packs a heartrending punch. You can stream Lost Boy’s Big Bang EP in full on Soundcloud or purchase from Beatport. I, for one, am very excited to have discovered new talent from the Bay Area, and I can’t wait to find out more.

Bay Area vocalist/producer Eileezus enchants me with her J Louis produced track ‘In Store’. The silky seductive song is part of a 5 track EP called ‘Good Feelings’ which provides a hazy jazz atmosphere. Definitely thankful Eileezus music found me. Pristine work from the BayCreatives founder.

I’ve been trying to figure out who she reminds me of for the past 10 minutes. SoSuperSam. She’s like a bay area version of SoSuperSam.

I tend to get very excited when I first discover talent arising out of my home, the Bay Area, and CVRSE left my heart aflutter when I stumbled upon his new original, Verana. This DJ and producer breathes new life into the local trap scene with his grandly cinematic Hudson Mohawke and Rustie evoking anthem. Verana pitches and yaws, saws and thunders, a savage and vehement sonic adventure. CVRSE recently teamed up with Gill Chang on a dreamy pensive number named Where Is My Mind, too, which can be streamed below. Verana is a free download, here, while Where Is My Mind can be copped, here.

Bay Area’s own RoAN Gibson offers a gracefully raw and vulnerable song ‘Lovlily’. I couldn’t figure out who his voice reminded me of – I thought maybe Mumford and Sons – but he’s recently been listening to Jack Garrett, Chet Baker, Charlie Parker, and Lewis Del Mar. He has a few shows coming up in May but I can already imagine him playing in the woods of Outside Lands.

Oakland rapper G-Eazy’s career is certainly taking off these days. He’s selling out shows, the center of a lot of buzz, and the next big thing to come out of the SF Bay when it comes to hip hop. A few months ago, I shared his track Far Alone, which features Jay Ant. Its video paid tribute to many spots in the bay that are dear to me, including parts of Berkeley and Oakland. Apparently, the tune and G-Eazy’s talent has caught the attention of bay area legend E-40, who’s remixed the track, giving it a bump that will add to its hit potential.

OFFICIAL VID: Drake feat Lil Wayne & Tyga – The Motto

December 22, 2011

An official video came out for Drake’s song The Motto which features Lil Wayne and Tyga. The coolest part of the video is that it pays homage to the San Francisco Bay. Check out the scenery in this… you’ll approve and be much entertained if you’re a local, like me. Can’t say I’m super fond of this song and its lyrics though, but to each their own.
