I’ll be eternally grateful that I was able to make it out to BASECAMP’s headlining set at Popscene earlier this year. I had to rush there from another commitment, and made it in just in time to catch the Nashville trio’s set, and boy was it awe-inspiring. The three piece performed in the middle of a cube like structure, shrouded in darkness, save for the ghostly projections and flashing lights that surrounded them on all sides. The immersive experience was utterly captivating paired with their dark electronic music and moody R&B soul. You can get a taste of that viscerally spellbinding dynamism via the mind bending video BASECAMP just released for their latest glitchy warbling single The Hunter. The Hunter comes from their In Stone EP, out now on OWSLA. Purchase or stream the EP, here.

We may be in the thick of winter with February a distant dream, but I nearly want to ask Kansas City’s VALENTINE to be my own Valentine after the producer’s taken me on a rather epic journey on his latest remix. The enthralling edit he gives Nashville electronic trio BASECAMP’s beautifully haunting, deeply wrenching recent single In Stone shakes me to the core with gritty lurching, dubstep quivering future bass. Despite its relentless flurry of textured electronics, there’s an organic quality to VALENTINE’s chiseled remix that synchronizes with the heart and soul, jarring both into harmony with the throbbing thriller of a jam. The original may be named In Stone, but there’s nothing rigid and stagnant here. This is an ever fluxing, potent shifting exhilarant.

Today brings us exciting news that Nashville electronic trio BASECAMP will be releasing a new EP come October 21st. The title track off of In Stone is utterly gut wrenching and beautifully haunting, plus it comes with a stunningly shot music video, too. Sultry brooding R&B soul and minimalist warped electronica take us on a multi-layered, finely nuanced sonic adventure similar to if Jack Garratt went James Blake dub. In Stone’s video was directed by Dylan Reyes, and it follows the trio on a recent trip they made around the grandiose landscapes of Iceland. It’s been a prolonged period of anxiety ridden time that we’ve heard any new material from Nashville’s BASECAMP, and though the hand wringing and eager anticipation may have to continue onward, their collaboration with Melbourne duo Hoodlem is more than delectable enough to keep me satiated and for a long time to come. You see, this isn’t an original, but it certainly is a very fresh twist some timeless originals. BASECAMP and Hoodlem unite to give us a divine future soul cover that brings together Amerie classic 1 Thing and Shaggy hit It Wasn’t Me. This is steamy and luxurious at its finest. Nashville crooners BASECAMP return with their first new original in some months. Watch My Back easily proves that these guys are still one of the best indie electropop & R&B act out and about. The hauntingly sensual and velvety smooth tune is the first taste from a new EP named Greater Than, out August 21st on OWSLA. The production on Watch My Back is simmering dark, entrancingly bordering on futuristic downtempo and giving off a chilling yet stirring effect. YOu can pre-order Greater Than, here.

Not only is N2DEEP a witty play on letters and words, but the song is also one you can fall very deeply into. N2DEEP is the latest track from Nashville electro-soul trio Basecamp, and its a cover of Genesis classic In Too Deep. I had the pleasure of catching these guys live a few months ago, and they did not disappoint. Can you imagine listening to these velvety vocals, sexy soundscapes, and honeyed melodies live? It’s swooning and wooing, to say the least. The trio bring it on the steamy but sparsely minimalist cover, giving the original a simmering and moody makeover.

Add to your emerging female electropop talent list this Los Angeles native, Sophia Black, because her new single Vibration will have you swooning in no time with its blend of crystalline R&B and pop beauty. The electronic production on Vibration reminds me of some of New Zealand duo BROODS’ music, but of course, matched with a BANKS like sensuality and such entrancing, honeyed vocals. Wait till you get to the French verse within the song, too. If you don’t melt by then, you never will. Sophia has been busy working on a new EP. While we eagerly await more form Ms. Black, stream her song OVR AGN from earlier this year, which was produced by the fantastic BASECAMP.
