Little needs to be said to convince anyone of the quality of a song when it involves both 6LACK and BANKS, but let’s attempt to wax poetic over In Between, anyway. It’s a bonus delicacy off of an anniversary re-release of the ATL artist’s debut album, Free 6LACK. In Between is one of three new track, and its combination of 6LACK’s R&B/hip hop with BANKS’ trademark smoky seductive vocals is nothing short of divine. In Betwee’s moody broiling R&B oozes dark brooding, lusty aching vibes. Snag the bonus track from iTunes, here.

It’s quite a special day when new Banks surfaces. The dark R&B pop goddess has taken her time to bless us with new songs this year, so it’s a real treat that Underdog has surfaced, just as Banks is in the midst of three sold out headlining shows in Los Angeles. The new one off is easily one of her more energized offerings with its dance ready beats and a fiery jab. I’m certainly jealous of the folks in LA who get to catch her live this week. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen Banks live; noticing her outside of SOHN’s set at SXSW earlier this year doesn’t count. You can download and stream Underdog via major outlets, here.

I woke up this morning with Banks on my mind. The dark pop goddess teased us on her socials with a new song yesterday, and it was one of the top items to check out on my agenda for the day. Crowded Places is a heart pummeling beauty with a feathery tender atmosphere. It’s a somberly aching pop aria enveloped in misty fog. On co-writing and production duties are Tim Anderson and who elsebut ever busy Jack Antonoff. Banks shows us her soft underbelly on this devastating lullaby after having fired us up so many times with her fierce haunting arias in the past.

Brooding electronica tune from Edinburgh-based electro pop singer songwriter EMILIE titled ‘Never Enough’. The song’s essentially about greed in today’s world and never being satiated. Emilie has a sound similar to BANKS, Lapsley, Broods… etc.

If you’re in the mood for the dark and macabre, as I pretty much always am, go ahead and submerge yourself in the new video for alt R&B and electropop goddess BANKS’ Trainwreck, one of the fiercest tracks from that fine sophomore album. It’s no surprise at all that it’s one of several favorites of mine from The Altar. On production duties is who else, but oft collaborator Sohn as well as Anderson. I’m down for some BANKS anytime, any day. That smoky smoldering voice and her edgy seething music never fail to entrap and captivate. If you made the egregious mistake of missing out on BANKS’ album The Altar, you can snag your own copy from various outlets, here.

Hailing from Glendale, California, mAsis delights with ‘Knees’. The trio story behind the song is "Knees tell a lot about the lives someone’s led. Unlike our hearts which are hidden, our knees tell a visible story. Knees ache from stress, they bruise from work, and they need the help of others when the weight of the world gets to be too much.“ Members of the mAsis have worked with Banks, Rhye, and Mr. Little Jeans, and ‘Knees’ oozes with a syrupy flavor reminiscent of Zhu.

Israeli singer-songwriter, rapper, and producer ADI recently released a video for ‘Dreamin’. Amy has previously featured her on IHM but this is my first experience with her. She reminds me of a fusion of BANKS, Tove Lo, and Kehlani. ‘Dreamin’ is the lead track off her new EP, which is also titled Dreamin, set to release December 9th.

As if BANKS’ electro R&B and pop isn’t dark enough in itself, Austria’s salut has given her song Gemini Feed a royally crepuscular remix. This gloomy jouncing, jagged jabbing edit is fully transfixing, a sinister drawling intensive affair. There’s nothing passive aggressive here, it’s all finely woven, dauntless aggression, and inebriating solution that permeates the world around me with its snarling fervor and carnal energy.

BANKS is so in tune with the music she presents and the emotions they conjure that she is always on point when it comes to a song’s lyrics, aesthetics, and title. It’s obvious her forthcoming sophomore album The Altar is going to be a mighty fine follow up to her scintillating debut, and the latest song she’s unveiled from the record is a dark sinuous ballad named Mind Games. And boy, does she play some infatuating mind tricks with her electro R&B, luring me in with its curvy contour and entrapping me within its torment and agony. BANKS’ smoky voice and the this fiery song’s slithering, seething electronic production somberly bends and twists me to the core. This inky black BANKS is much like the BANKS from debut album Goddess, bewitching, spellbinding, and carnal seductive to no end, yet majestic and refined. Her new album The Alter will be out on September 30th.
