I’m sure many of you are looking forward to the new Band Of Horses album with much zeal. The indie rock veterans will be unleashing their five full length, Why Are You OK, on June 10th, and off the album comes Whatever, Wherever. This one ambles and rambles serenely, a rustic gem fit for slow cruising down country roads with your mind lost in old frayed memories of yore. Watch Band Of Horses’ heart warming music video for the tune below, a much intimate and nostalgic mosaic of home video footage intermixed with shots of the band quietly jamming out together. Band Of Horses’ new album can be pre-ordered from iTunes or on Amazon.

OFFICIAL VID: Calexico – Falling From The Sky

April 23, 2015

Calexico revealed a new music video for their alt country and Americana laced indie rock single Falling From The Sky today. The brass imbued song also features Ben Bridwell of Band Of Horses. I’ve always been fond of the Tucson based veterans’ twangy, sentimental music, but the video for the song gets some extra bonus brownie points because it stars Swedish folk musician José González (who I get to see live next week!). It’s a rather bizarre clip otherwise, and reportedly one of a two part series, which will be completed with a video for a José González song instead.

If ya haven’t heard, Band Of Horses is working on a new album. Not only that, they’re working on a new album with Jason Lytle of Grandaddy! Pretty epic, eh? But before we hear anything that’s come to fruition from the new album, these wonderful musicians want to give us a Christmas present. From Grandaddy and Band Of Horses comes the melting holiday folk tune Hang An Ornament. Take those lighters out of your pockets, put some Santa hats on, and let’s all sway together to this sentimental beauty.

I would guess that most people would recognize the song this track samples right from the get go. I mean, who doesn’t love melting, beautiful Funeral, by Band Of Horses, right? Turns out there’s a new version of the tune in music town, and it’s a helluva haunting listen. Two young up and coming producers out of Arizona, one named Y//2//K and the other, Honest, teamed up to create this atmospheric, feathery rendition of the hit. It’s a chill trap experience with plenty of subtlety and enchantment. The impressive, gorgeous song had me delving further into Y//2//K’s repertoire, and I encountered his song White Wine, which features Mark Johns. Listen to the sparkling future bass and trap tune below.

I actually don’t have that much time before I need to run off to Live 105’s Not So Silent Night in Oakland (night 1 of it!). So, I’ll throw a few items on here really quickly. Can’t leave y’all high and dry! Band Of Horses’ Neighbor is already such a beautiful, make you melt tune. Now, you can listen to the acoustic version, which will be on their coming new album Acoustic at The Ryman, a compilation of 10 songs recorded live at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. It comes out on February 11.

This is for all the peepz in the bay (and outside the bay) who go to Outside Lands every year in August. Here’s the sweet, solid lineup for 2013, just announced this morning (and more to be added later, I’m sure). As always, I’ll be there all three days, running around, catching as much excellent music as I can.

ALBUM STREAMS: How To Dress Well, Band Of Horses, Aimee Mann, Dinosaur Jr.

September 11, 2012

There’s a crapload of album streams that were made available today, so let’s jump into it…

First off, How To Dress Well’s sophomore album Total Loss, which drops on September 18. Get ready for Tom Krell’s atmospheric r&b and electronica. This is perfect for a quiet late night.

Next up, Band Of Horses’ eagerly awaited Mirage Rock, which also releases on September 18. The previews I shared so far were great, now we get to hear the whole, lovely indie rock/alt country shebang.

The next ones, you’ll have to hop over to NPR for.

Aimee Mann is back on September 18 too with her new album Charmer. She sure sounds great still! I’ve been totally digging the title track. Stream the folksy rock from NPR: http://www.npr.org/2012/09/09/160607855/first-listen-aimee-mann-charmer

Last but not least ,Dinosaur Jr have been killing it with their return to the scene. Their 90’s throwback alternative rock has been a wonderful, timeless sound to hear again. I Bet On Sky is yet another album to drop on September 18 and the veterans’ 10th studio release. Check it out at NPR too: http://www.npr.org/2012/09/09/160628084/first-listen-dinosaur-jr-i-bet-on-sky

Slow Cruel Hands of Time

September 6, 2012

Band of Horses released their fourth studio album Mirage Rock next Monday. Here’s another preview off that disc. Slow Cruel Hands Of Time is signature sounding indie rock alt country from BoH, at times very much reminding me of The Funeral and some of the other older songs that put them on a lot of peoples’ radars. Of course, nothing can ever beat The Funeral. That song is timeless and genius.
