Kentucky newcomer Brennan Villines arrives with confidence on swaggering first song Bad Habit. He’s a smooth operator with that soulful voice of his, and his snazzy smoldering R&B soul debut oozes steamy sexiness. Rich in brass and rife with melting strings, Bad Habit is that Tom Misch and Bruno Major union you’ve always wanted, with a dash of Justin Timberlake’s wily charm, too. Brennan explains: “Bad Habit came into fruition as a result of my experience with my bad habit. Also any song I can slide an Office reference into I’m happy about.” This swooning introduction to the singer songwriter is taken from Brennan Villines’ debut EP Make It Work, a deeply personal project which tells his honest story and experience with a specific relationship that turned his life upside down through drug addiction. Brennan worked with Benny Reiner on the record, a Grammy Award winning musician who is an original member of the Hamilton cast and has worked with the likes of LAUV and Berhana. Keep up with Brennan Villines via Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.

Not only does Bad Habit feature ever enthralling Brooklyn singer songwriter Skela and her sultry, husky soulful pop voice, but it’s introduced us to Miami’s Triarchy and his super savvy production skills, too. There are plenty of bad habits that I should probably cut out of my life, but an addiction to this lusciously pouncing, classy shimmering fusion of house and future beats is certainly not one of them. It’s a silky polished blessing for the ears, as well as a hip gyrating dance provocateur. Bad Habit, which made its premiere on This Song Is Sick earlier this month, is a free download via Toneden, here.

Los Angeles based Australian/Filipino singer songwriter Chela makes a chic and stylish return as she shares a new music video and song named Bad Habit. The snappy alt pop and edgy electronica jam is glorious, particular when taken in with its riveting music video, in which we alternate between watching Chela strum a guitar like Annie Clark and dancing spectacularly. Her moves even include slaps syncopated to the song’s acute swats. NPR compared Bad Habit to Shakira, while we noted some Chairlift playful sleekness. Chela directed and choreographed the video for Bad Habit herself. Both song and video close out with pure exhilarating energy. You might want to get up and join Chela in a celebratory dance, too. Those in SoCal can catch Chela at the Resident in Los Angeles on October 3rd.

It’s been far too long since we heard anything new from Los Angeles indie pop act Parade Of Lights. I’m still such a huge fan of their infectious synthpop anthem We’re The Kids. Though they haven’t released a new original, I’m still quite elated to enjoy Parade Of Lights’ new remix of The Kooks’ Bad Habit. It’s a synthy, electrifying, and radiant indie electronic affair. Revisit the video for We’re The Kids below, in case it’s faded from your memory in the past year.

OFFICIAL VID: Foals – Bad Habit

English dance punk/rock band Foals dropped their third studio album Holy Fire earlier this year, and for me, it feels like ages and ages ago. It was a heckuva album with countless amazing songs, some of them a departure from their usual sound (ie. Inhalers in particular). Other tracks definitely harkened back to the sound many of us were used to from the first couple of albums from the talented band. Today, they released a video for one of those tracks, Bad Habit. It’s been awhile since I’ve listened to Foals, and the release brings me right back into the midst of Holy Fire. Suddenly, I want to listen to the album again. As great as so many of the songs off that album are, Late Night is still my favorite. That guitar solo at the end? Mmmmmmm…
