It’s been a few days since ILLENIUM dropped his new album Awake to much elated fanfare, and I’m sure many of you, like me, just can’t get enough of its epic collection of songs, many of which feature exceptional guest talent, too. ILLENIUM has been kind enough to make the whole album available on Soundcloud, here, but make sure you support on iTunes, here. Both ILLENIUM and Said The Sky are long time IHM faves, so we had to share the Mile High City production maestros’ collaborative track off of Awake. The two happen to be close friends. Their symbiosis is more than apparent as they combine their melodic bass talents on Where’d U Go, an exuberantly lifting, beautifully ebullient anthem that takes us on a soul searching celestial sojourn that seems to lift the weight of all our worries off our shoulders. Where’d U Go combines the cosmic beauty of Porter Robinson with the ethereal effervescence of Odesza. It’s that gorgeous a masterpiece.

San Francisco’s very own Grammy nominated producer and musician Tycho has unveiled a brand new song. That in itself is massive news any day of the year, but this is also Tycho’s first ever release with vocals. See, as all you Tycho fans out there know, is an instrumental track off of the Scott Hansen’s acclaimed 2014 album AWAKE. You should also recall that acclaimed New York electronic project Beacon gave that track a gorgeously effervescent remix. He infused the ambient beauty of the song with a resilient dance groove and gossamer vocals. Tycho’s Hansen and Beacon’s Mullarney teamed up on stage in 2017 for stellar live renditions of See, and now the fruit of that union has been officially recorded and released as a proper collaboration. Tycho’s See, featuring Beacon, takes us on a dreamy serene, deeply meditative sojourn that ends with resounding, dance inducing catharsis. I feel as if I’d be happy for this journey of self discovery to last forever. You can grab the breathtaking track from Ghostly International, here.

Even if I’m asleep and dreaming right now, the world I’ve encountered on Squired and Minit’s Awake is more lucidly vivid and diversely chromatic than anything I’ve experienced in a state of consciousness. Squired, a producer from New York, has partnered up with his buddy Minit from Korea to create an uplifting future bass and ever fluxing chill trap aria full of organic life. It dips and quivers, vaults and swells, whirs and flares. Warbling synths are met by burning guitar while airy wafting vocals build towards epic drops. When I think of songs named Awake, my mind invariably trails towards Tycho’s ambient electronic single, partly due to how brilliant of a tune it is, and partly due to how many times I’ve played the track as my sleepy companions came to in the mornings whilst camping. We now have a very different Awake to adore and extol, courtesy of ever charming French-American duo Freedom Fry, the very same pair that gave us ever infectious folk ditty Shaky Ground as well as countless brilliantly imaginative covers, among other delights. Bruce and Marie treat us to luminous jangling folk pop on Awake. I can’t help but feel wide awake after Freedom Fry’s vibrant dashing anthem suffuses me with verve and jubilation. A touch of forest lush Of Monsters and Men interweaves with some earthy thrumming Angus & Julia Stone as well as a sliver of Mumford & Sons’ acoustic twang. Awake is but the first taste of much new music to come from Freedom Fry leading up to their debut album. We can’t wait to hear more. Purchase Awake from iTunes or Amazon.

For the most part, remixes tend to arrive fairly soon after a single’s release. Yet on the rare occasion, an edit comes to fruition long after a track has nuzzled its way into our hearts. When such a fabulous remix arises, it’s a transcendental opportunity to pay homage to a song that hasn’t graced IHM in quite some time. Tonight, we get to re-visit Moving Castle founders Hunt For The Breeze and Josh Jacobson’s exhilarating trap and soulful house collaboration, Awake, thanks to a magical interpretation of the track offered up by Columbus’ LOKI. The unexpected future bass delight resonates bright wonder and indomitable resolve in its exotic plumage. It marches high and exuberant, proud and dignified, a fine display of divine character for a producer who may very well be a Norse god. LOKI’s remix is a free download, here.

This one’s been out for a little while, but I came upon it again as a separate Soundcloud one off, instead of as part of Moving Castle compilation Vol. IV, and it immediately struck me that I’ve never shared this wicked intoxicating tune with you. Moving Castle co-founders Hunt For The Breeze and Josh Jacobson team up on Awake, a spectacularly exhilarating trap and soulful house combination. Awake is a gorgeous, invigorating track, a refreshing song that lives up to its name fully, jolting me with clarity and energy. Download Moving Castle Vol. IV, here.

Folly & The Hunter is an indie folk pop band from Montreal. The quartet has quickly succeeded at sweeping me off my feet with their new single Awake. The song is heavily drenched in warm, radiant pop.  Folly & The Hunter showcases a far more optimistic and bright sound with Awake, compared to some of the band’s older material. Awake is the title track off Folly & The Hunter’s new album, set to release May 26th. The blossoming, swelling gem is the perfect soundtrack to Spring.

From Oxford comes a quartet named Pixel Fix, who create lush soundscapes of electronic rock music. They recently premiered new track Lungs, off forthcoming EP, Running Thin, out August 4 on Owlbear Records. It’s an intricately layered and intoxicating offering. Another personal favorite Pixel Fix tune after some exploring through their limited repertoire is Awake, off their Fall EP from earlier this year. Awake is far darker and even more woozy.

I really, really, really dug San Francisco ambient electronic producer Tycho’s album Awake earlier this year. So much so, that I’ve brought it along with me on every camping trip these past few months, making an effort to play it, first thing in the morning, as my friends wake up to cook our sumptuous breakfasts. It’s been magical, hearing those cinematic notes greet us every morning in the beautiful outdoors. Well done, me. The title track Awake is possibly my favorite song on the album, though it’s one of those albums best listened to as a whole, in my opinion. Guess who’s remixed the track? East Coast based chillwavey electronic producer Com Truise. How does Com Truise x Tycho sound? Fanfrickingtastic. It’s an edgier, trippier take on the still stunningly relaxing and beautiful song. There are some Boards of Canada like moments on the remix that I find electrifying.
