A slew of mighty fine debuts have been rolling in just ahead of summer. Case in point, Olloway, a Vancouver-based electronic band who’s burst out of the gates with a gooey melting debut single named August. Olloway, formerly known as EDM duo FYKA, has crafted a song that redefines genres with its visionary blend of organic electronica and heartfelt alt pop. The duo has carved out their own irresistible niche in the scene with their airy synths, impassioned guitars, and fleecy vocals. Olloway’s first song is reminiscent of A R I Z O N A or Mansionair, deeply permeated with dewy-eyed sentiment but heavily punctuated by incendiary junctures and a Porter Robinson-like ethereal electronic bridge. August is the first release off their debut EP, expected this summer. Download August for free, here, as we await more from the fascinating new project.

The sheer power of a million mighty suns are packed into the emotional force of 1000 SUNS, the latest ravishing alt pop single from British artist AUGUST. Though it’s a rustic tinged, broken-hearted ambler, 1000 SUNS overwhelms the senses with a lush orchestral canvas, over which Steve Hughes of AUGUST sings his very heart out. The atmospheric yet homey aria fills us with both wonder and a comforting sadness. For a moment, we are all kindred souls, experiencing the same aching longing. He explains that the inspiration behind his project’s moniker came from an old song Hughes wrote, with the
same name, and it was also the month he started working on this collection of songs.
Hughes has supported the likes of 21 Pilots, Jack Garratt and Walk The Moon, and
there will be more live shows coming in early 2018. You can also stream 1000 SUNS on Spotify, here.

It’s time for us to swoon once again to AUGUST, the British artist who’s given us songs like Sword and GHOSTS in the past year. I don’t know what strange chemistry might be at work here, but new single Chemical is tugging hard at my heartstrings. It’s a bittersweet melter of a lush building, dulcet lulling indie pop ballad featuring warm guitars and creamy emotive vocals. Chemical is at once delicately brittle and grandly dramatic. AUGUST’s Steve Hughes explains of Chemical: “To truly love is to walk through both joy and suffering, this song is about trying to handle both of these opposing forces.”

British artist AUGUST breaks a long nine months silence by dishing out synthwavey pop resplendence on new single GHOSTS. This regal clattering, cavernous sprawling opus was well worth the wait. It spreads its wings and takes full flight, riding high on Steve Hughes sensational vocals. Sleek The Temper Trap meets warm impassioned The Chain Gang Of 1974 on this grand sweeping aria from AUGUST’s upcoming EP. Re-visit AUGUST’s prior two singles on Soundcloud as we eagerly await news regarding that EP.

∆UGUST swoops across the pond from good old London to melt my heart into a molten pool with the duo’s debut, Sword, a tender yet dark alt pop aria produced by Charlie Hugall (Halsey, Florence and the Machine). Saccharine harmonies and atmospheric synth caresses leave me sighing to Sword’s moonlit anguish and overcast beauty. There’s something so romantic about doomed love and sacrifice, swords and doting professions of devotion.
