I’m not sure how you’re supposed to pronounce rx Soul’s name, but the “rx” in the moniker tends to remind me of pharmacy prescriptions. Perhaps that’s what the LA based artist was going for… prescription soul, or aural balm the heart needs to get over the anguish of heartbreak and longing. rx Soul first offered up such an elixir when he made their debut with All The Way There earlier this year. And now the blooming talent is back with his fourth single, Pilldreams, a stunnin collaboration with hip hop artist INDICA. Pilldreams’ nebulous atmosphere and slow simmering R&B soul is punctuated with swanky guitar curls. It’s a woozy swooning sonic medication that seemingly alternates between The Weeknd’s dark sensual R&B and Opia’s torrid simmering R&B funk, all shrouded in a sea of thick purling haze. rx Soul states of the track: “I wrote this song for all the times I’ve found myself tempted to "take a pill” to solve a problem instead of investigating and addressing the root of the issue. Self-medication can mean a lot of different things for me, and whatever shape it comes in it can be hard to recognize, much less fight off. Pilldreams is just two sides of that same fight.“ Pilldreams can also be streamed via Spotify, here.

We’re still trying to get used to calling Pluko by his new moniker, having been fans of the Pittsburgh production whiz’s bedazzling concoctions for a long time whilst he was known as Pluto. The artist, who’s now signed to visionary label Foreign Family Collective, has teamed up with husky voiced singer songwriter MOONZz on a stunning new song named ‘asleep’. The dusky late night ballad seems to transport us straight into our darkest dreams, where our deepest desires reside. ‘asleep’ leaves us breathless with its tensely haunting, darkly churning future bass. It’s a slow burner of an atmospheric gem, one that leaves a more than lasting impression after its last poignant notes fade into the distance. Purchase/stream via alternate outlets, here.

In case you missed the news, one of our long time Australian favorites, The Kite String Tangle, dropped a brand new mini-album named In A Desperate Moment earlier this month. And by “mini”, I mean… not so mini. In A Desperate Moment is an 11 track escapade brimming with heartfelt feels and a sweet abundance of The Kite String Tangle’s atmospheric ballads, etched dexterously out of chiffon vocals, intricate instrumentals, and ethereal electronica. The producer/singer’s new oeuvre of songs features this moving beauty, All About Her, a wistful longing gem that showcases a bevy of lush instruments ranging from horns to keys to strings. You can stream In A Desperate Moment in full on Soundcloud, here.

UK trio LOWES took my breath away when they debuted last year with Awake At Night. The exquisite grace and gliding elegance of that ambient pop song reminded us of the spotless purity of London Grammar’s music, as well as Hannah Reid’s immaculately angelic vocals. It’s taken a full year for LOWES to follow up that first release, but they’ve finally re-emerged with Here We Are, a cathartic soaring beauty that vindicates our conviction that LOWES is a magnificent band.

Speaking on the track, the band state: “’Here We Are’ is about those times when you force yourself to stop for a moment, and recognise just where you are in a certain time and place. It felt like the perfect song for us to introduce ourselves, and our first EP, to the world. It’s about the calm and the wildness you feel when immersed in nature.” What’s that? A first EP? We’ll be looking forward to it with much eagerness! Get a taste of all four tracks from debut EP Elements in LOWES’ film, Norway, below.

Haulm’s six track EP Stay For Me has been out for a moment, but that in no way means we should let EP track Clean slip by. The Brooklyn based project, a collaboration between vocalist/composer JT Norton and electronic producer Reed Kackley (BAILE), entice and enchant with their chiffon vocals and an ethereal trickling, misty burbling soundscape on Clean. Their downtempo electronica and wispy light vocals remind me of Daniel Woolhouse’s early music as Deptford Goth, but embedded in a nebulous haunting, atmospheric skimming sonic environment akin to some of John Hopkins or even Bonobo’s more chill and ambient constructions. Haulm’s Stay For Me EP can be streamed in full on Soundcloud, here.

Germany’s Mazde makes a welcome return with evocative new music after dazzling his fast growing fan base with his debut EP, Shifted Thoughts, by partnering up again with Spanish siren LissA on 390. Her acrobatic pop vocals and Mazde’s smooth throbbing, opulent sheering electronic production takes us on a tactile journey that we gladly lose ourselves in. In some ways, 390 feels like a slow burning, fluid enthralling Flume track, minus all the jarring jabs and sharp edges. We’re left in a dream like trance, floating among the clouds. The beautifully stirring future styled anthem is available at iTunes, here.

An icy spell hypnotizes us as we wade into the glassy beats and cool draft of Coldheart’s opening bars. Then dreamy pensive, fluidly gliding vocals sooth our fluttering hearts before urgent sawing synths raise the temperature sky high. Coldheart is a fresh and creative new electronic track from Chicago based producer and dummer Cofresi, who’s teamed up with touring Gorillaz vocalist Marcus Atom on the drum effusive, rhythmic entrancing, and explosively animated melodic trap opus. It’s the second single from Cofresi’s forthcoming FACES EP, arriving in March. You can catch the producer on tour through May with Autograf and at various other festivals and shows. Coldheart is available from iTunes, here.

Just their name The Code seems to beckon some somber reverence and hushed esteem, it feels so serious and so defined, so esoteric and mysterious. The truth is, we really don’t know that much about the British duo, and they seem to go on long stints of silence, too. It’s been nearly a year since they’ve blessed us with their mixtape Blue Electronica. So I consider it a fortunate day when a new EP drops and we get to share a new song from the pair. Same People is a viscous swelling, buttery melting, and atmospheric shifting swathe of R&B soul and electronica. It’s like molten metal, creeping into our veins and coating the inner chambers of our hearts with its glitchy rolling synths and velveteen vocals. Same People is an overwhelmingly intoxicating listen. Its glitchy shudders are like aching trembles. It’s lifted from a new EP named Paramount, which you can dissolve into fully on Soundcloud, here. The dark murky journey is suitable for some late night solitude, with the lights turned down low.

We haven’t really heard much of a new peep from Echo Park musician and producer Crywolf since his Skeletons EP last year, and we’re definitely hungering for some of his heart crushing, breathtaking music. Though we’ll have to continue waiting, we’re more than grateful that LA production prodigy AWAY has brought Quantum Immortality back with a profoundly stirring, darkly atmospheric new remix. The glitchy haunting, pensive brooding remix is a potent mixture of towering progressions and heart stopping drops. Grand and cinematic, AWAY’s remix leaves us wondering… is there a chance AWAY and Crywolf might come together for an official collaboration soon? Their styles meld together so seamlessly on this melancholic future bass and melodic trap remix.

London indie/atmospheric rock quartet Stereo Honey is poised to drop a stellar EP named Monuments on December 1st. They’ve already dazzled us with The Bay, and now the four piece band take us on an immensely beautiful and dusky brooding journey with new taster, Angel. Stereo Honey douses us with their silky vocals, which drift and hover hauntingly, floating on a sea of soft droning, shadowy whirring melancholy. But Angel also builds towards post-rock coursing,  exultant soaring catharsis as it charges towards its alpine closure. Re-visit The Bay via its new music video out this week below. Stereo Honey’s songs are available on iTunes, here.
