My heart skipped a beat when I encountered this remix of Zeds Dead’s Lights Out, featuring Atlas. I saw the name Delta Heavy, and I knew, this was going to be an astonishing experience. I’ve been a long time fan of this English production duo, whose heavy hitting drum & bass and dubstep hybrids have thrilled me countless times over the years. And their videos, like their animation for hit single Hold Me, are just too deliciously twisted and entertaining. So, I dove eagerly into the pair’s new remix, and I was thoroughly fulfilled by its laser sharp pulsing, cracking percussion, and jagged wobbling. Delta Heavy’s adrenaline pumping edit of Lights Out is part of the new juggernaut remix pack which Zeds Dead released last week. You can grab your copy of Northern Lights (Remixes), here.

R&B singer songwriter SVFARI resurfaces from London and re-unites with UK producer Atlas on a tender stirring piece named For Something You Love. The fleecy melting beauty is a taste from SVFARI’s debut EP, due out later this year. It’s midnight magic as SVFARI’s vocoder treated vocals hover tentatively in the air, guiding us through Atlas’ lush celestial soundscape. This imaginative aerial lullaby is sure to take you to a land of enchantment, at times in a similar fashion to some of Francis and the Light’s music, but more plush and cottony.

Rising out of London comes a new R&B singer songwriter who goes by the pseudonym of SVFARI. His debut mesmerizes instantaneously with balmy chimes, but then his creamy crooning sets the heart on fire. Beautiful Human is sleek and polished, its infusion of dancehall and hip hop adding a crisp vivacious element to the smooth sensuous ballad. Beautiful Human is the first release from SVFARI’s forthcoming debut EP, and it follows a conversation with a potential lover. This splendorous first single, which SVFARI co-produced with Atlas, is a free download straight from Soundcloud.

Les Gordon, or Marc Mifune, is a Parisian producer fast on the rise. He’s supported famous French band Fauve on their 2015 tour as well as opened for electro great Madeon at Le Trianon this past year, one of several amazing venues I checked out during my visit to Paris in October. On December 11th, Les Gordon will release his new EP, Atlas, on legendary label KITSUNÉ. Just a few moments with the title track illustrates why the producer is becoming a sensation. Atlas is an effervescent and ethereal electronic track, one that springs and chops, shimmies and twinkles in a very Odesza and Flume way with the weightlessness of Mura Masa, but along with that beauty comes an organic quality we don’t often hear in electronic music. Despite the fact that many producers have started utilizing live instruments in their sets and in their music, the instruments on Atlas seem to take a front and center role on Atlas instead of being equal or lesser accompaniment. From cascading guitar, to cello and autoharp, Les Gordon masters it all and seamlessly blends them into the youthful and meditative gem. I know we’ve had folksy house music in the form of chill house remixes, and dream folk music of melting magnificence, but Les Gordon’s Atlas takes a whole new approach to what might be called a breathtaking blend of folk and electronica.

LYRIC VID: COIN – Atlas

June 18, 2015

This past year, I’ve been extremely excited about a band from Nashville named COIN, and most likely, you’ve seen me heaping praise on their song Run, though I shared some pretty early material from them, too. I’m elated that COIN just released their self titled debut album earlier this month. Off the album comes yet another insanely infectious indie pop number named Atlas, for which they’ve revealed a lyric video today. Like Run, Atlas is a radiant and uptempo charmer, a mirthful alt pop anthem. These spirited songs translate incredibly well live, too, as I just caught COIN perform them live last month at Popscene in San Francisco. COIN is currently on tour with Betty Who, and will be joinin gNeon Trees in July before making their Lollapalooza debut on August 1st, then joining Walk The Moon for some shows. Be sure to catch them. You won’t regret it.

From the prior feature’s Scottish folk we turn to Ireland for some endearing folk music, too. Cry Monster Cry, formed by Dublin brothers Richie and Jamie Martin, revealed moody, emotive Atlas, which is the second single to be taken from their debut album, Rhythm of Dawn, released in March. Despite its mournful sentiment, Atlas is a warm and full bodied jangler with beautiful harmonies and heart rending mandolin, not unlike that of earlier Mumford & Sons.

OFFICIAL VID: COIN – Atlas

For jangly indie pop jams, Tennessee four piece COIN is a great new act to turn to. They first grabbed my attention back in June with their single Honey off recent EP 1992. Now, watch the video for the second track off 1992, Atlas! COIN’s energetic, loud sound reminds me of other indie bands like Youngblood Hawke and Walk The Moon. They certainly have the means to get a zealous crowd jumping voraciously. In fact, they’re already doing just that over in Nashville. Revisit Honey below the video for Atlas!

LYRIC VID: Coldplay – Atlas

September 6, 2013

This has made some serious rounds on the internetz already, but it’s such a gorgeous tune that I’ll share anyway. The ever potent Coldplay released  a lyric video for their contribution to The Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack. The ballad is a soaring beauty far removed from their last album Mylo Xyloto. Get ready to be swept away.

Here we go again…

October 15, 2011

Starting up with a sold out Metronomy show at Popscene tonight.

Then the rest of the weekend is going to be filled with Treasure Island Music Fest! Hope I can be a strong trooper and make it through it all OK. A few selections below from SOME of Day 1’s stellar lineup. Day 2 may follow later on, if I have time and energy (will have to see about that). 😉
