Database’s Another Love is just the burst of vibrant energy I need right now, plus it features Brooklyn’s Savoir Adore, who seem to be quite busy these days with a new song themselves, and a new side project, Violet Sands, involving one of their members. Brazilian duo Database kick up some dust with their electro funky spirit on Another Love, a jam as slick and rapturous as they come. Justice meets Du Tonc on the jam, which comes on an EP alongside three remix tracks. Stream the Another Love EP, here.

Once in awhile, a unique artist comes along that really stands out from the pack with some distinctive music. Nearly three years ago, I was mystified and mesmerized by a Bulgarian alt hip hop and pop artist named DENA. She became a sort of a indie darling within some circles, winning many over with her playful song Cash, Diamond Rings, Swimming Pools. There’s something very endearing about her accent and down to earth vibe. I’m still very fond of that song. DENA returned this week with a deeply infectious tune named Another Love, produced by Mocky. While it’s certainly more ornate and intricately produced than her early songs, it still has the snug, heart warming, and sincere quality I’ve come to love about DENA. Another Love is first R&B pop offering off the now Berlin based artist’s forthcoming sophomore album. Check out DENA’s video for Cash, Diamond Rings, Swimming Pools below if you’ve never checked it out. It’s still such a treat over two years later.

Tom Odell’s Taylor cover

January 31, 2013

Rising UK singer songwriter Tom Odell visited the BBC Radio studios recently to perform some tunes. In the midst of all that, he performed a cover of Taylor Swift’s ubiquitous single I Knew You Were Trouble, but he made it all his own. The soulful, alluring, emotive, gritty cover is a far cry from the original pop song. It’s no surprise, as Odell has already been impressing countless people (including me) with his skills. I’m catching the guy live tonight in an intimate venue (Popscene in San Francisco at the Rickshaw Stop), and I can’t feel luckier. I’ve been waiting for this show since late last year when I heard he was coming by. On top of that, I get to see In The Valley Below and Sweden’s Urban Cone (also excellent) all in the same night. If you’re in town, you should really stop by. It’ll be worth your time and few buckaroos. Anyway, without further ado, the amazing Swift cover below and Odell’s fantastic Another Love again. This guy has got huge things ahead of him.

OFFICIAL VID: Tom Odell – Another Love

My friend pointed me to this song which has been blowing up since its release earlier this month. Tom Odell is a London musician who just released a debut EP titled Songs From Another Love. Here’s the debut single and video for Another Love. The song is a sappy, indulgent mix of early Coldplay (and we all miss OLD Coldplay, right?) and OneRepublic. Throw in that charming accent and those gorgeous looks, and we have a winner. Winner winner chicken dinner. Tom Odell. Remember that name.
