To be honest, I sometimes feel unworthy of the incredible music that graces our ears and moves our hearts. I certainly feel unworthy of trying to find words to describe their greatness. I’m quickly reminded of these restless thoughts by new Vancouver Sleep Clinic. The Australian outfit proves themselves more gut wrenching than ever on new song Unworthy, a prime example of how truly atmospheric and cinematic their music can be. Unworthy’s symphonic grandeur is paired with serrated percussion. One pulls at the heart, the other jabs sharply into its walls. The song is a sensational taste from VSC’s debut album REVIVAL, which you can pre-order from iTunes, here, before it arrives April 7th.

James Supercave’s Better Strange begins with a wonky smoothness that immediately lured in the part of me that’s eternally in love with Metronomy. As the song breaks out into lurching beats and catchy but quirky hooks, I’m also reminded of Oscar & The Wolf’s baroque style of music. The Echo Park musician unleashed a mashup video for the psychedelic alt pop song today, created from a short named Half Wet by acclaiemd UK animator Sophie Koko Gate. James Supercave will be releasing a highly anticipated debut album early next year on Fairfax Recordings. Better Strange is available now on iTunes.

Every time I listen to Australian trio DMA’s gritty, jangly Your Low, I can’t help but start tilt my head from side to side to its mellifluous, heart warming sway. 90′s Brit pop meets the Beatles, with a dash of sun shine flowing surf rock on You’re Low. DMA’s unleashed an adorable music video for Your Low today, a perfect pairing for the charmingly gritty yet honeyed alt rock song, off the band’s self titled EP, out now on Mom + Pop. DMA’s will be playing Lollapalooza and Outside Lands later this summer, so I’ll get to enjoy You’re Low and wag my head to it in bliss in San Francisco very shortly.

Let’s go even darker on this absolutely wicked new tune, A Sentry Was Born, from Preme Diesel. Preme Diesel is an alter alias for previously featured Canadian producer Jamie Kuse. On his latest track, he certainly goes uber italo disco and deep, haunting house. Slinking bass and Crystal Castles meets Chromatics pulsing, techno edge serve to weave a bewitching spell, complete with pitched, droopy vocal samples. The release also comes with an animated music video that matches the ominous music, telling a story of a hero fighting back against a force of deady robots, bent on enslaving humanity. A twisted post apocalyptic video and a seriously sinister tune? I can’t resist!

I happened upon an Los Angeles psych pop act named Fever The Ghost this morning, via their new animated music video for single Source, and it’s likely my favorite thing of the day. I’ve already watched it at least five times. The colorful and wacky animation matches Fever The Ghost’s kaleidescopic experimental music with such perfection. One part MGMT, one part Portugal. the Man, and one part Youth Lagoon, I found myself completely captivated by Fever The Ghost’s Source. The flushed song is off their Crab In Honey EP, out right now. Fever The Ghost finds a fine balance between weird but not too weird on the melodic, intricate, and incredibly addictive song and its video.

OFFICIAL VID: Mano’s Daughter – You

September 13, 2014

I guess I’m on a roll with London acts today, because this next one also hails from that music gifting Anglo city. Synthpop duo Mano’s Daughter released a spectacular animated video for new single You, and it kept me mesmerized many times over already. You is a smooth, simmering song, lushly brooding along, like a blend of Bat for Lashes, London Grammar, and The Jezabels, but perhaps far more muggy and dreamy. The duo releases their new EP, Shiver, on September 22 via Smart & Shiver.

Chicago’s Evan Thomas Weiss has given the world much angsty, sentimental indie rock music over the years under the name “Into It. Over It.”, with his last release being Intersections from 2013, out on Triple Crown Records. It’s been awhile since then, but Evan has unveiled an animated video for melancholic, beautiful album track The Shaking Of Leaves. It’s a must watch, especially if you have a huge soft spot for canines and sappy stories. If you’ve never heard the tune, expect some Death Cab For Cutie and Jeremy Messersmith like melting emo rock. You might want to keep a tissue handy as you watch the video below, if you tend to tear up easily. Awww…

I happened to glance at a list of acts that played at The Great Escape in England over the weekend, and I noticed a name I hadn’t seen before, Ezra Vine. Out of curiosity, I looked up his music. The New Zealand singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist has a debut single out on his SoundCloud, and it’s a hand clapping, vivid, and bright folk pop charmer named Celeste. His vocals remind me of Mikky Ekko and even a bit of Ryan Tedder from OneRepublic, but much folksier and more pastoral. There’s also a fantastic animated video for the song, which you can stream below.
