Lately, there seems to be an uptick in unexpected covers again. The least of such covers I expected to surface is a cover of my favorite Angel Olsen song, Shut Up Kiss Me, by Scottish post-punk and dance-punk heavyweights, Franz Ferdinand. Despite how busy they must be with rolling out their new album Always Ascending (arriving this Friday), Alex Kaparanos and his bandmates have recorded a cover of the feisty tune for SiriusXM, giving Shut Up Kiss Me their trademark drawl while charging up its already boisterous energy. If you haven’t pre-ordered Always Ascending yet (as I have), I highly recommend you do so, here.

Angel Olsen is without a doubt one of the most talented folk/alt-country singer songwriters of the moment, and her 2016 album My Woman was brilliant, to say the least. So when news of a new B-sides and rarities collection named Phases surfaces, it’s time to celebrate. The St. Louis by way of Chicago artist will be revealing a slew of rare and unreleased tracks on the album, out November 10th via Jagjaguwar. Special is one such song, a dusty strummer that feels coarsely ruffled but is also dulcet lilting. It’s quite an affecting and introspective folk rock journey, as Angel Olsen’s songs tend to be. You can pre-order Phases, here.

Amazingly talented folk and indie rock singer songwriter Angel Olsen will be returning with her next full length on September 2nd, and she’s just revealed a stunning new song and video from My Woman, one that’s both visually and aurally magnificent with much retro flair. Shut Up Kiss Me packs a fiery punch. Its robust pop rock spunk is reflected in Angel Olsen’s ruthlessly powerful roller rink video. It’s only proper that the video closes with Angel Olsen wondering if she gave enough attitude. You sure did, and we loved it. New album My Woman can be digitally pre-ordered from iTunes, or physically, here.
