While Lean On gives it a competitive run for the money, my all time favorite Major Lazer tune is still the Amber Coffman featuring Get Free. There’s just something so incredibly enchanting about the Dirty Projectors member’s magical, captivating voice, paired with Major Lazer’s restrained reggae fusion production on the track. New York’s PAIGE brings me back to the song with a remix that raises the tempo and energy level of the original ten fold, and I find that I really dig a Get Free that’s much more spirited, too. PAIGE’s Get Free is a blend of future house, deep house, and tech house. He holds nothing back on its hypnotically dark and filthy moments, which are glorious.

UK future pop duo AlunaGeorge does it all! Here they are remixing Dirty Projectors’ brilliant song The Socialites. I’ve come to realize I’m extra fond of DP’s songs when Amber Coffman’s vocals are featured front and center, so The Socialites easily won my heart some time ago. Now, add in the glitchy bass filled electronic pop touches of AlunaGeorge and look at what we get! Whoa! Way too cool. In case you’re hungering for the original DP edit, here ya go:

Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard put his signature touches on Dirty Projectors’ Swing Lo Magellan track The Socialites. The resulting synthy remix is gorgeous and totally addicting. I’m very fond of Amber Coffman’s vocals on The Socialites (as well as on Major Lazer’s Get Free, which is likely my all time favorite Major Lazer track). This new approach really works and her vocals seem to shine even more. It’s like Hot Chip x Dirty Projectors! Wait, it sorta is! Revisit the original track and video below.

Talented and artsy indie experimental rock band Dirty Projectors have been on tour lately. For their Carnegie Hall stop, they created a special limited edition 7" for their Swing Lo Magellan track Offspring Are Blank. The B side for the single is There’s A Fire, a complex little jangle of a tune. They’ve been nice enough to upload the charming song onto Soundcloud for everyone to hear.

Dirty Projectors cover Climax (Usher)

January 26, 2013

Whoa, whoa. Dirty Projectors joins the ranks of quite a few musicians and bands to have covered Usher’s Climax. Seems to be a popular cover choice! Skip to about 1:13 in for the cover if you don’t wanna hear the chitter chatter. This is a pretty tight cover. It works! Very well!

OFFICIAL VID: Dirty Projectors – The Socialites

December 15, 2012

Sure enough, as they promised, here’s the third Dirty Projectors video in three days! It’s another Swing Lo Magellan track. The Socialites features more footage that accompanies that short Dirty Projectors film Hi Custodian. It’s definitely interesting how all these artists and bands are utilizing music videos as another extra mile of artistic expression. Just look at Sigur Ros and their Mystery Film Experiment videos! The Socialites focuses on Amber Coffman’s delightful vocals over a folktronica instrumental background.
