Our velveteen electronica and soul faves, HONNE, has been rolling out some spectacular collaborations lately whilst teasing us with rumors of a new album. The London outfit last linked up with dashing Tom Misch to give us Me & You ◑. And now they’ve teamed up with edgy UK artist and drummer Georgia, whom you might recall we were championing quite a lot a year ago after falling hard for her dark fidgeting, gritty bristling electronic pop. We haven’t heard from Georgia since, so we’re glad to come across her unexpected cameo (and lovely voice) on HONNE’s Location Unknown ◐, a beautifully moving, swanky stirring, and luxuriantly affecting infusion of their smooth rolling, snug melting electro-soul sound. HONNE has also shared another divine new track named 306 ◑, which you can stream below. Location Unknown ◐ is available, here, while

306 ◑ is available, here. Though we still don’t have any additional information to share regarding HONNE’s next album, a world tour has been announced for later this year. Details can be found, here.

I won’t lie, we’re not exactly old fans when it comes to Rainbow Kitten Surprise. But we’ve fallen quick and hard for the North Carolina veterans after hearing their singles Fever Pitch and Holy War, plus how can we not love the band’s name? Rainbows? Kittens? Yes, please! The band just released their new album “How To: Friend, Love, Freefall”, and our copy of the album on CD has just arrived. It’s sitting pretty next to me right now, I can take a photo if you need proof. I can’t wait to pop it in for a listen. To celebrate, that’s share another tune off the  new album, an earthy slapping alt song named When It Lands. In case you missed those previous singles, check out our prior feature, here. Get your own copy of Rainbow Kitten Surprise’s new album, here.

We’ve been wondering for awhile now what Robert Delong has been up to, since the multi-talented Los Angeles based artist and producer has been silent on the new music front for nearly a year. Not only has his music always been freshly creative and thoroughly riveting, but he’s a jaw dropping one-man band live, surrounded on stage by an incredible array of instruments and technical toys. Not only is Robert back today, but he’s partnered up with two-time Grammy nominated Stanford alumni K.Flay for his new release, too. As can be expected with anything that involves K.Flay, Favorite Color is Blue is a vociferous and confident strutting mish mash of alt electronica, alt pop, and electro-rock. The resounding single is a glitchy rumbling, torrid seething march of an exhilarating anthem. Favorite Color Is Blue is available, here.

You know how you can tell that a week’s off to a great start? By the fact that there’s new Freedom Fry to delight our ears, of course! The Los Angeles based French American indie pop duo return with a surprisingly dreamy and electronic number named The Words. Freedom Fry are as endearingly jangling and somewhat twangy on the song, but this time around, they’re covered in a psychedelic synthpop glaze. It’s almost as if The Zombies went disco on us, with a bit of kaleidoscopic Tame Impala and Portugal. the Man within! The Words is Freedom Fry’s first song of the year, a song they describe as “hybrid disco-folk”.

Red hot NYC duo MS MR remixed The Naked and Famous’ Hearts Like Ours, off their sophomore album In Rolling Waves, which came out last fall. It’s likely one of my favorite tracks off the release, and this more pensive and somber re-imagining of the track by the dark pop duo is a nice and welcome way to revisit the tune.

Divine Fits covered Frank Ocean!

October 17, 2012

Everyone is covering Frank Ocean these days. Even Divine Fits embarked on a live cover in Rhode Island the other night. The superband (whose members consist of Spoon’s Britt Daniel, Handsome Furs’ Dan Boeckner, and New Bomb Turks’ Sam Brown) did a cover of ChannelORANGE track Lost and made it their own rocking tune. It sounds pretty darn good. These guys were fantastic at Treasure Island Music Fest this past weekend.

Well, this is surprising…

Listened to the new Noel Gallagher track AKA.. What a Life. I guess I was expecting the usual stuff, this is much more dance-y and upbeat than what I thought it’d be and it’s actually quite catchy and could grow on me. That’s proof to ya to always keep your mind open and check things out.. was getting a lil sick of all the Gallagher brothers’ drama and BS flying around the machine and all the attitude in the past that Oasis put up despite major landscape changing work back in the day (respect just the same of course). It ain’t genius but hey not bad at all! Growing, growing…

This is a great trailer for Arctic Monkeys’ upcoming DVD release Don Valley Bowl. It captures the spirit of live rock and roll oh so well.
