New English/Canadian artist Alice Merton burst upon the scene with much aplomb when she revealed debut single No Roots a little over a month ago. The dynamic pumping indie spectacular brought to mind a flurry of other magnificent talent. No Roots’ punchy flare evokes KT Tunstall while Alice Merton’s baroque swinging voice conjures the deep vocal splendor of Florence Welch. A certain Bohemian earthiness also gives off a sliver of Fleetwood Mac alongside some moonlit sultriness reminiscent of Feist. And then there’s that mirror ball ready electro surge near the end, too. When a new music video surfaced for the phenomenal debut, it wasn’t a hard choice to jump back into the bouncy animated tune. Alice Merton proves herself visually mesmeric in her video, too, as she belts out her excellent single with exactly the sort of snappy vitality I expected. Snag the track from iTunes, here.

If you’ve curious what it might sound like if Fleetwood Mac, Florence Welch, and Yacht collaborated, then prepare yourself for the bedazzling spectacular that is this tune from a new English/Canadian artist named Alice Merton. No Roots is her dynamic debut single, and it’s a rather autobiographical one at that. Alice Merton has lived a nomadic life, having moved around countless times through a myriad of countries. Perhaps it’s no coincidence that No Roots also reminds me of fellow buzzing indie artist Skott, a genre bending musician with a Bohemian past herself. It’s near impossible not to be drawn into the slurry bass and baroque vocals on No Roots, which also sports some spectacular electro breakdowns and an immense amount of vitality. No doubt I’ll be looking out for more from Alice Merton going forth.
