It’s a California affair as Los Angeles production prodigy Andrew Luce teams up with Oakland’s own Alexander Lewis on their new single, TAKE ME. NYC’s Jojee adds some East Coast flair to the pneumatic track too. Her lofty vocals are ever so captivating, interwoven into the fine threads of this melodic plinking, sleek simmering, and melodic winding tune. TAKE ME was meant to mimic the feeling when you slowly start to disconnect yourself from another person and can feel their weight being lifted off your shoulders. It’s out on Fool’s Gold now, and you can stream/download, here.

Oakland native Alexander Lewis brings us quite the treat in the form of his latest single, Off Guard. We’re definitely not caught off guard by the producer’s ability to bring in a bevy of elements on the buoyant electronic track, which features sassy R&B pop vocals by a mystery chanteuse. While he’s given us plenty of emphatic trap tracks in the past, Off Guard is a brisk prancing banger that also sports a capering Jersey bounce. He says of the song: “This song was a breath of fresh air for me. Trying to avoid being dubbed as a singular genre artist and getting caught up in the monotony of making the same style of song over and over again, I wanted to show my versatility and my passion for creating varying styles of music. Off Guard is just that. A love that catches you off guard. falling for someone unexpectedly, and not necessarily being ready to receive it.” Stream/download Off Guard, here.

Alexander Lewis, fresh off the success of his collaboration with Brasstracks, All Of The Lights, has linked up with Oakland’s own red hot producer KRANE for a new jaw dropping remix. Both of them are fans of Sinjin Hawke’s debut album First Opus, so they’ve offered up an edit album cut Onset. You can take in the orchestral magnificence of the original trap masterpiece, here. KRANE and Alexander Lewis give Onset, already such a cinematic piece, a dramatic work-over involving sharp jostling percussion and climactic fluxing future bass. You can download their epic remix, here.

Hudson Mohawke’s Chimes was one of the best songs of 2015, a magnificent and operatic instrumental trap masterpiece that the world heard many times over, thanks to a much deserved feature on a MacBook television advert. Normally, something as epic as Chimes is probably best left untouched in all its prestigious glory, but a new flip by Alexander Lewis and Y2K shows us exactly how amazing a well forged, brilliantly thought out edit can be. The producers link up to give Chimes a makeover that, ironically enough, is less “chime-y” but more orchestral regal, utilizing additional piano chords, strings, and more to make this an even more majestic and triumphant march, a resolute Blue Danube of  trap, if you will. Download Alexander Lewis and Y2K’s magnificent re-imagination of Chimes from Toneden.

You know what I really dig about musicians and artists? People normally expect others to give them presents when its their birthdays. But musicians? They give US presents when it’s their birthdays! Today, fast rising Moving Castle talent Mark Johns celebrates her birthday by giving us a wicked new tune named 5 South, her debut original. It speaks mountains of how brilliant she is at her craft. Produced by Alexander Lewis and featuring Brasstracks, 5 South will sweep you off your feet with its wonky bubble texture, jazzy flair, and heavenly vocals. 5 South is up for free grabs. Well, happy 21st, Mark Johns, and thank you for giving us something spectacular.

New York based producer Alexander Lewis dropped a potent new track on rising collective / label SYZYGY this week. IMY is a shimmering, intoxicating future bass and trap track that skates along smoothly, yet carries plenty of elastic bounce, too. The seductive, FKA Twigs like vocal samples and wispy atmosphere are dreamily ethereal, while the skittering drum kit percussion wholly satisfying and mesmerizing.
