Alexandra Savior is making an indelible mark in the scene with her new song Shades. The smoky voiced singer songwriter from Portland gives us a smoldering slinker of a sensual seductive tune that’s one part Feist, one part Lana Del Rey, and one part sooty Arctic Monkeys. Shades is an enrapturing churner of an alt pop song from a forthcoming debut album produced by, who else, but Arctic Monkey’s Alex Turner. To say I’m bewitched is an understatement.

The muggy heat of Arctic Monkeys’ Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High takes an extra sultry and smoky turn on a sensational cover by Miami’s Brika. The cover is the first new material we’ve heard from the songstress in a year, and it’s a much welcome return. The R&B flavored interpretation of the bluesy rock song reminds me of BANKS, but crisper and snappier, in an Alessia Cara like way. I’ve fallen in love with Brika’s voice anew.

OFFICIAL VID: Arctic Monkeys – Arabella

It would be a crime not to share the brand new Arctic Monkeys video today, particularly considering their explosive rise to widespread popularity after last year’s “California-fied” album AM. There’s no question that AM was one of the best rock albums of 2013, and Arabella is one of so many rollicking good tunes off it. The video for the romper just came out yesterday, and today, the viewcount is at nearly half a million. Already. Alex Turner’s sexy good looks can only take it so far, so it’s a heckuva statement about the current state of Arctic Monkeys’ amazing music and how it has connected with people all over. Are they one of the best rock bands of this generation with a long lasting legacy? It’s really beginning to look that way. Of course, long time fans are probably saying “I told you so”.  As one who jumped on the wagon in 2007 with Favourite Worst Nightmare (what an album… love it) and not in 2006 when their debut came out, I’ll save it. I know some long time, die hard Arctic Monkeys fans and I’m not going to step on any toes here.

CHVRCHES cover Arctic Monkeys’ Do I Wanna Know

February 14, 2014

Tons of stuff to share today, I’m going to flood you. You’ve been forewarned. Before I launch into a ton of new goodies, join me in enjoying this cover of Arctic Monkeys’ Do I Wanna Know by none other than electropop star CHVRCHES. As always, they make the tune all their own, making it almost unrecognizable at times with their lustrous synths and Mayberry’s ethereal vocals. It’s so different from the original, that it takes a a few seconds to get used to it, particularly if you’re a pretty big fan of the rocking, simmering song off of Arctic Monkeys’ album AM.

Arctic Monkey B-side

December 6, 2013

That’s right, the fellas have released another B-side we haven’t heard yet from the AM sessions. More dark, mysterious crooning by Alex Turner and sizzling hot Brit rock? Yes, please! You’re So Dark is a heavy, indulgent, slow burner of a track with its fair share of psychedelic essence. It’s the B-side to One For The Road. I get to see these boys live tomorrow night! Don’t be jealous!

There’s no questioning the fact that Arctic Monkeys have exploded to enormous distinction this year along with the release of their fantastic “California-fied” fifth full length album AM. They’re likely the biggest English rock band of the present moment, if not the biggest rock band from any country. I’m sure all the Arctic Monkeys fans and Alex Turner stalkers are oh so proud and happy. After all, this wasn’t an overnight story. Some of us have been listening to these guys for years, loving what they put out album after album. I probably mentioned it before, but I remember listening to Favourite Worst Nightmare (no, I wasn’t with them from the start) and befuddling some of my friends with the tunes I tried to share with them back then (ie. Brianstorm, Flourescent Adolescent, Balaclava, This House Is A Circus… oh what a good album that was). Hey, 2007 was a very different time, okay? Many of my friends have developed far more varied music tastes since then. Today, Arctic Monkeys released a new farm themed video for AM track One For The Road. Is anyone else surprised that the video already has over a quarter million hits on YouTube as of 5pm today? Not I. Nope, not I.

OFFICIAL VID: Arctic Monkeys – Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High?

August 13, 2013

Well, while we’re in the Brit rock area of music, I might as well take this moment to share the latest music video from Arctic Monkeys for their new song Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High?. The cool video is a trippy, literal representation of the song. Plus, you get to see that adorable Alex Turner mug for nearly five minutes long. Win! The mid tempo (slow for AM) is off coming highly anticipated fifth album “AM”, out on September 9. I know some of you big AM fans can’t wait!
