My hips have been abducted again, by who else, but The Hip Abduction! The Florida based outfit invites us into a humid, balmy paradise with their new single, Come On Get Up, which sports the six piece’s islandy beats and rootsy charm, a combo that oft reminds me of Crystal Fighters’ vibrant folktronica fused with Miami Horror’s neon-lit radiance and Sublime With Rome’s reggae tinged rock. There’s even a dash of Portugal. the Man’s recent funk pop leaning offerings to be found in The Hip Abduction’s slinky swinging, hip-swaying gem. Stream Come On Get Up and The Hip Abduction’s other releases on Spotify, here.

Al Bairre had me bobbing my head in delight the moment I heard their Afro beat driven guitar pop single Bungalow, a bright, colorful, and peppy treat. The quartet combine cello, violin, guitars, and keys with ukelele and drums on the song, which reminds me of a playful blend of Vampire Weekend, Cayucas, and Arcade Fire. Al Bairre is a huge deal back home in South Africa but they’ll be heading to the UK for the first time in May. Watch Al Bairre’s music video for Bungalow below.

tUnE-yArDs – Water Fountain

I was very delighted to hear that tUnE-yArDs is releasing a new album. Nikki Nack will be out May 6th on 4AD. I was a huge fan of 2011 album Whokill. Merrill Garbus never fails at amazing me, recorded or live. I’ve actually had the pleasure of catching her live under all kinds of circumstances, whether fests, headlining, or at other events. I’ve even watched her soundtrack a silent film live, which was pretty amazing. The very last time I saw her in person was when she jumped on stage during Thao and the Get Down Stay Down’s show at Noise Pop Festival last year. It was her birthday, and Thao called her on stage. I was so giddy with excitement to see the two talented artists on stage together that I elbowed my friend carelessly. Sorry, friend! Today, the brilliant tUnE-yArDs debuted the very first taste off of Nikki Nack. Water Fountain is as bubbly and whimsical as I’d ever expect from Merrill, replete with that unique worldbeat vibe that she always infuses into her music. Does she still live in Oakland? I sure hope so, because I’ve been so proud of that fact for the past few years.

I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve been heavily enjoying Dan Croll’s insanely infectious and outstanding song From Nowhere. So, I was pretty happy to see a new video from the talented British singer songwriter. Here’s Compliment Your Soul, another catchy, melodious, bright, warm tune. The Afro-beats within the track are absolutely delightful. Fans of taxidermy would love this video.
