Los Angeles based producer BOYBOY delivers snazzy seductive luxuriance on his new single Afraid. This lavish dance emulsion melds Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaur’s shadowy deep house and Disclosure’s peppery garage with a Toro Y Moi like curvaceous groove. If you think that sounds like a juicy succulent combination, you’re more than right. Afraid is a sensational jam, a dark and visceral, sexy and sleek midweek solo dance party must. For more of BOYBOY’s fine tunage, head to Soundcloud, here.

The last time we heard from The Neighbourhood, they unveiled the first taste off their upcoming release #000000 and #FFFFFF (black and white). That taste was a memorable, delicious gem named Silver that foretold the band’s growth after their spectacular debut album I Love You earlier this year. Unfair is the next new track to whet our appetite, and like Silver, it’s a heavily instrumental track filled with lush components. In fact, it’s entirely instrumental. There’s no doubt that the new release is coming off highly intriguing, and it again foreshadows a slight change in direction for the California alt rock and pop band. The Neighbourhood has always been a band with a gritty, dark sound, and this is ever the more true with the new moody tracks and their production. On top of Unfair, The Neighbourhood also released some remixes of I Love You track Afraid, including the italo disco tinged, pulsing, electronic take by Australian duo Twice As Nice. Afraid has always been one of my favorite tracks off the debut album, and I’m really enjoying this version.

Visualette for Afraid?

April 26, 2013

It sure is getting confusing out there these days with lyric videos, official videos, and… visualettes? Well, either way, I’m really digging this song, so here ya go, the visualette for The Neighbourhood’s Afraid. I actually just started seriously listening to their debut album I Love You which JUST came out. And I’m liking it. A LOT. There’s a reason these guys are buzzing up these days. Some of their songs are just so enjoyably catchy and moody. I’m sure by now, most of you have heard Sweater Weather. Afraid is track 2 off I Love You, and it’s a stand out alternative song from the Southern California band. It’s a perfect angst filled bad relationship song.

More Lana Del Rey unsurfaced

August 24, 2012

That’s right, MORE Lana Del Rey! There seems to be an unending supply from her many years of hard work before the world suddenly “discovered” her, fell in love with her, then decided to turn on her to some extent. These are certainly not her best work, and the recordings are obviously low budget demos, but it’s always alluring to hear her voice. Playing Dangerously is the better of these two.
