Regine Chassagne

takes the leads on our latest preview from Arcade Fire’s next conceptual album Everything Now, and she’s super glam in its video, too. Feast your eyes and ears on Electric Blue, the fourth and final advance track from the album before it arrives soon on July 28th. It’s a wonderfully wavey and funky jam on which Regine shows off a range to her voice that was hitherto unknown. I mean, she’s always been a queen when it comes to her riveting vocals, but Electric Blue sees her taking her voice on immense and en point aerial adventures. Everything Now will be available on CD, cassette, and heavyweight black vinyl LP, as well as digitally of course, through an exclusive 360 degree partnership with global media and e-commerce platform Everything Now in synergy with the Sony Corporation. If you haven’t been following along with Everything Now Corp’s socials, and you dig tongue in cheek sardonic commentary about commercialism and the world as driven by corporate entities, you should check it out. I’m sure it’ll tickle you and bring forth a few giggles. Pre-order Everything Now, which was produced by Arcade Fire, Thomas Bangalter (Daft Punk), and Steve Mackey, with co-production by Markus Dravs, here.

Still lots of goodies that came out of today, but I’ll leave y’all off with this surprisingly good mashup by, who else, but The Hood Internet. Reflekt You Tonight mashes together INXS’s 80’s classic Need You Tonight and Arcade Fire’s Reflektor, an interesting little pair up, indeed. I clicked the play button rather cautiously at first. Lo and behold, the simmering vocals and AF’s Haiti/disco production go together pretty nicely! I wouldn’t share it if not, because Arcade Fire is kind of sacred ground, if you know what I mean.

ALBUM STREAM: Arcade Fire – Reflektor

October 24, 2013

I’m freaking out. Arcade Fire JUST posted Reflektor on Youtube for us to stream in FULL. IN FULL. DID I SAY IN FULL? All ONE HOUR 25 MINUTES OF REFLEKTOR. WE CAN LISTEN TO IT NOW. NOW. YES. NOW. It’s actually a huge, long lyric video set to a 1959 film titled Black Orpheus (as referenced previously in the lyric video for Afterlife). Reflektor comes out on October 29. Anyway, I’m going to shut up now and focus on the stream. You too. Go.

OFFICIAL (non-interactive) VID: Arcade Fire – Reflektor

September 9, 2013

Yes, I know I posted Reflektor this morning, but that was the cool interactive video that required use of a web camera and/or mouse on Google Chrome. There’s a standard video for the amazing new tune, too! Here ya go! It’s much easier to load and easy to stream! Now, you can listen to the song over and over and over again without worrying about lag or bandwidth! So, how many times have YOU listened to Reflektor since this morning? So. Good. Again… BOWIE + JAMES MURPHY + ARCADE FIRE = EPIC!

REFLEKTOR

It’s Monday morning. I have a crap ton of things to do and take care of. I dropped off my beloved car for repairs this morn because of getting hit by some lady in a parking lot. I’m driving a rental. No fun. I miss my car. I miss Burning Man. I miss my BFF, who left back down to SoCal yesterday. I’ve had a string of bad luck with many things lately. BUT I’M GRINNING AT MY DESK LIKE AN IDIOT, FLOATING ON CLOUD NINE. Why? WHY, you ask? Well, it’s September 9. And true to their word, ARCADE FIRE has released their new single REFLEKTOR. I’m on listen number 2 and freaking out, because it’s so damn good. It’s only going to get better with each subsequent listen, and trust me, I’m listening to it many, many, many times for many, many, many days. I can’t wait to hear the rest of AF’s new album. Head over to the Reflektor website to watch the new interactive video for Reflektor filmed in Haiti (likely AF’s favorite place in the world) and listen to the amazing, intricate, complex new song. It’s filled with the usual endless layers of instrumentals we expect from Win, Regine, and company, including a ton of brass (thank you), but also a healthy heavy dose of Afro beats and that sound of the moment, the funky groove. Arcade Fire, I love you. I’m so glad all the excitement wasn’t a let down. But how could it ever be? Arcade Fire, you genius, you. I, like many others this morning, am still digesting Reflektor. It’s no simple tune easy to take apart and put into words. Go take a listen yourself if you haven’t yet. It’s magnificent.

Be amazed.

EDIT: I was so giddy and blabbering so quickly that I forgot to mention a couple very important facts about Reflektor. 1) It’s produced by the great James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem & DFA Records, duh). 2) Reflektor features BOWIE. THE BOWIE. YES. DAVID BOWIE.

English New Wave veteran Tears for Fears sits quite high and pretty on my list of favorite 80’s bands. Arcade Fire sits high and pretty on my list of all time bands. Tears for Fears has covered Arcade Fire’s Ready To Start. Am I happy? Why, yes, yes I am. It does leave me hungering for the original, but it’s an awesome new rendition. And boy, does it make me miss Arcade Fire. I can’t wait for new Arcade Fire this September. CAN’T WAIT. Did I mention I can’t wait? I can’t wait. Shoot, this makes me want to put on some AF vinyl tonight.
