In a few short days, we’ll be making our annual pilgrimage to SXSW. One of our favorite acts that we caught last year in Austin was Adrian Galvin, better known as Brooklyn based alt project Yoke Lore. Turns out, he’ll be making his way back out to Austin this year, too! And he’ll be slinging some fine new music, too. Case in point, new single Fake You, lifted from his forthcoming EP Absolutes. The indie pop track explores the grey areas between black and white ideas, while building upon the lush, sonic palette of his past enthralling works. The multi-instrumentalist, dancer, and visual artist is back at it, stealing our hearts with his heartfelt anthems which are both ruminative and sweeping. “These songs all gravitate around the struggle between two sides of something,” Galvin explains. The opening track, “Fake You,” is about the difficulty of realizing your perception of someone doesn’t necessarily match who they really are. Maybe we’ll be lucky enough to hear more of Yoke Lore’s new music in Austin. One can hope. For now, you can re-visit some of his prior releases on Soundcloud, here.

I never would have guessed that Brooklyn’s Yoke Lore and LA based SF production maestro Blackbird Blackbird would “meet” on a track, but it’s happened, and the resulting remix is more than divine. Blackbird Blackbird has given Adrian Galvin’s World Wings a gorgeous re-work, and it’s a transcendental experience, an atmospheric sprawling, euphoric wafting electronic take on the indie pop song. I suppose you could call this rendering an ambient future bass transformation, replete with fleecy synths and stratospheric beats. The luminous remix floats us up into the clouds, where we drift and glide, as if riding on soft folds of velutinous cotton.

If there’s anyone out there who can make pain “good”, it’s Yoke Lore, except there’s never anything painful about Adrian Galvin’s music. The Brooklyn based talent, also known for his prior roles in Yellerkin and Walk The Moon, was even one of my favorite acts that I caught at SXSW earlier this year. The multi-instrumentalist returns with a vibrant pulsing, euphoric dazzling synthpop anthem named Goodpain, the title track from his new EP out June 16th. This uplifting slice of gleaming bliss is a fine follow up to his acclaimed 2016 debut EP, Far Shore. Yoke Lore will be heading out on the road in support of The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart on thier UK tour through the rest of the month. Re-visit Galvin’s enthralling repertoire on Soundcloud, here.
