Rising New Jersey electronic R&B artist SZA released an alternate version of her beautiful, ethereal song Ice Moon today. The song is produced by Felix Snow and Pat Lukens, and the revamped version features rapper Ab-Soul. It’s a hazy, shimmering rendition, and Ab-Soul’s verses fit like a glove. I had the original on my never ending list of shares to catch up to, so why don’t you have a listen now? The video for the enchanting track just came out this past week.

Sticking with some hip hop brilliance with Kendrick Lamar’s Heart Pt 3 which also features Jay-Rock and Ab-Soul. It’s a heckuva track, and it’s not on Lamar’s debut album “Good Kid, m.A.A.d. City” either. That very eagerly awaited album debuts tomorrow to many peoples’ delight. This track is a nice little gift to go along with that release. The Compton artist is on the fast track to topping all the new generation of hip hop artists these days. The old school sounding track is delish, but I’m not so sure about the very end of the track. I could do without the October 22 line. (EDIT: the album is already out, fresh on the market)

I couldn’t figure out how the heck to embed this on tumblr, so you have to go to the following website where you can stream or download Royalty for free:

OFFICIAL VID: Ab-Soul – Empathy (feat. Alori Jo & JaVonte)

May 3, 2012

Going back to some wonky, drugged out r&b and hip hop. Here’s a wicked one I just had to share. Rapper Ab-Soul’s Empathy, featuring Alori Jo and JaVonte on vocals, is a trippy, syrupy track with some good rap verses thrown in. This is good stuff. Can you imagine if someone did a chopped and screwed remix? It’s already so entrapping with its thickness and heavy texture. There’s definitely a good deal of post-dubstep (aka EARLY dubstep) influence in the electronics and beats on this.

OFFICIAL VID: ScHoolboy Q – Druggys WitH Hoes Again ft Ab-Soul

Dang, this is really wonky and wacky. It’s actually pretty good, and the lyrics are very nasty. You’ve been warned. I’m not the biggest hip hop and rap fan, so I’m always a little cautious when I check out new tracks, but there’s something about this ScHoolboy Q ditty that I do like. I’m very picky with my hip hop. I just have to ignore how foul the language is at times. The beat to this has got a wicked bounce that i like. It’s…. rubbery… like I said, it’s wonky! Very, very wonky!
