A new Superorganism music video is a must share in my books. The international collective are my favorite live act of the year. I caught them in Austin, then at their sold out debut at the Rickshaw Stop here in San Francisco but two days after I returned from SXSW. Each time was as much fun as the last. I can’t attend a Superorganism show without smiling and laughing my whole way through, the indie pop outfit just lifts my spirits with their whimsically squishy pop. Their self-titled debut album has quickly become one of my favorites of the year too, and I’ll likely keep it in my car as my go to pick-me-up for a long time to come. The band’s unique music, which has been compared to the likes of MGMT and Gorillaz both due to sound and performance style, is just incredibly catchy, fun, and playful, yet also immensely clever and astute. It’s just the warm, peppy radiance we need to get through any long day. Watch Superorganism’s adorable new video for one of the tracks off the album, Night Time, above. Remember to wag your head, flash your happiest grin, and tap your feet in joy (as if you need a reminder). Orono is as charming as ever as lead vocalist and the star of the video. One of the most endearing aspects of the band, besides their amusing stage presence, is their ability to perform their songs with a smattering of unconventional instruments and sounds (obviously their music is recorded in the same manner). For an additional treat, watch today’s brand new
La Blogothèque A Take Away Show performance below and bop to their disarming rendition of Everybody Wants To Be Famous. Do yourself a favor, catch the group later this year when they hit the road on yet another expansive tour. And get their debut album, here.

A Take Away Show: Broken Bells – The Changing Lights

January 17, 2014

As I’ve mentioned many a time before, one of my favorite music series on YouTube is La Blogotheque’s A Take Away Show, which features incredibly talented artists and bands performing songs in mundane locales, making viewers feel as if they’re right there with them. It’s been awhile since I’ve shared a La Blogotheque clip on I Heart Moosiq, but it’s time. Not only is this a wonderful A Take Away Show video, but it’s the debut of a brand new Broken Bells song from their long awaited new album After The Disco, out February 4 on Columbia. Danger Mouse and James Mercer already impressed us immensely with what we’ve heard off the sophomore album so far. Holding On For Life is no doubt one of the best songs to grace our ears these past couple months. The Changing Lights is another fantastic tune, though the A Take Away Show version is likely far different from the album cut. I’m guessing this version is far more acoustic and raw. I wish I could’ve been in that piano shop to witness this performance. That’s one lucky little girl in the clip…

Half Moon Run and Franz Ferdinand on La Blogotheque

July 17, 2013

A couple of La Blogotheque Empty Space/A Take Away Shows have been on my radar that I wanted to share. I don’t have enough time to keep up with the YouTube videos as much as I’d like to, but as I’ve oft said before, I love these live clips. The first one is Montreal indie folk rock band Half Moon Run performing a beautiful rendition of their excellent single Full Circle. I absolutely adore that song. The second? Franz Ferdinand rocking out one of their two new tunes, Love Illumination. Need I say more? I can’t believe it’s been almost a decade since I first caught Franz Ferdinand live. They’re still SO good.

Titus Andronicus on A Take Away Show

February 2, 2013

Been awhile since I’ve been able to visit the La Blogotheque Youtube channel to see what goodies they’ve filmed and shared. Here’s one of the new ones for ya, featuring New Jersey indie rock band Titus Andronicus. Lead singer Patrick Stickles performs an acoustic, solo rendition of their 10 minute song Tried To Quit Smoking in a derelict warehouse. Music magic ensues.

Jessie Ware on A Take Away Show

November 20, 2012

Converse, La Blogotheque, Pitchfork TV, and Jessie Ware all came together to record this gorgeous, acoustic rendition of Running in Paris. It’s an epic A Take Away Show. I can’t wait to see the UK star live early next year. The small show sold out already, but I have my tickets. 😉

Alt-J on A Take Away Show

October 11, 2012

My heart jumped for joy when one of the first things I saw this morning upon waking up was that the latest A Take Away Show featured none other than UK band Alt-J. It’s a combo of two immensely incredible things all in one! I’ve always loved La Blogotheque’s amazing videos of talented artists performing in various random locations. There was no doubt in my mind that this was going to be stunning. I always wonder how people around can continue talking and going about their usual routines in these clips instead of being mesmerized by the performances. Perhaps they’re told to do so to create background noise and the impromptu feel that makes these videos ever so much more charming. Without further ado, here’s Alt-J performing Mathilda and Dissolve Me on a street in Montmartre, Paris. Holy. Crap. Again, Alt-J’s debut album An Awesome Wave is one of the best albums of this year. Do yourself a favor. Check it out.

Holy crap…

April 20, 2012

I literally gasped out loud when I logged into my youtube channels to check up on the latest uploads by La Blogotheque. There’s too many goodies by artists I like, so I’ll just giddy up and share some of the latest A Take Away Show uploads from the past few days… Some if it isn’t actually new, but are re-uploads from their older archives. This is gonna be some breathtaking stuff, trust me…

First, a 3 part St Vincent performance… Annie Clark, take it away!

Next, Jonquil, of whom I’d posted about a few times recently.

This one seems brand new and features Michael Kiwanuka, the rising, talented star…

And apparently, since the last time I’ve checked into La Blogotheque, they’ve joined hands with The Switch to co-share the youtube channel and share amazing music magic. Here’s The Switch’s session with Givers!
