Wallows could very well be our favorite new American band, not only because the dashing troupe’s ranks include actor Dylan Minnette, but because their versatile form of indie and alt rock really is that magnificent and contagious. Plus, they’re ace performers too, as I noted when I caught them on the very first show of their very first tour here in San Francisco recently. They were the talk of town at SXSW last month, and now they’ve released a debut EP! The Los Angeles based outfit have put together a six track release named Spring. Previously featureed treats like Pictures Of Girls and These Days are included, alongside a bevy of fine new gems. Let The Sun In features a peppy lilt and a hint of 60s vintage allure in its brassy indie rock. This isn’t the first time that the band has reminded me of Noah and the Whale (who’s best album is also spring related, titled The First Days Of Spring). Wallows takes that Charlie Fink-driven sound and imbues it with honeyed jangling Beatles-like charm. For an array of garage rock, indie rock, and even post-punk imbued bliss, check out Wallows’ full Spring EP, here.
