I suppose you could say that we’re latecomers to Casper Skulls. After all, the band just released their debut full length, Mercy Works, on Buzz Records. To mark its release, the Toronto indie rockers have also shared a video for the album’s lead single, Lingua Franca, and it’s quickly keyed us in on how fantastic their gazey, artsy rock can be. The song is described as tracing “… the breakdown of communication in a relationship with a subtle sense of grandeur, abetted by a string quartet, and features co-lead vocalist Melanie St. Pierre.”  Lingua Franca explores communication and how it causes friction in relationships. By definition, ‘Lingua Franca’ is a common language spoken between two people whose native languages are different. Well if there’s any universal language in the world, it’s music. I find it impossible not to feel the heartfelt sincerity and melodious fervency found on Casper Skulls’ 90′s indie inspired song. Casper Skulls’ debut album Mercy Works is available, here.
