Los Angeles indie folk artist Phoebe Bridgers is nothing short of beautifully haunting on reedy new ballad Funeral. As it name suggests, there’s an aching undertow to the gorgeous song, from which you cannot escape. The most breathtaking of harmonies, a stringy orchestral backdrop, and a hushed gentleness remind me of Simon and Garfunkel with the twangy drawl of First Aid Kit. Funeral is lifted from Phoebe Bridgers’ debut album Stranger In The Alps, out September 22nd on Dead Oceans. Pre-order, here. She’ll be heading out on tour this fall with Conor Oberst, The War On Drugs, and Noah Gundersen.
