I couldn’t help but be drawn to Toronto synthpop trio Parallels when I saw their chromatic video for I.R.L, their latest vibrant pulsing power ballad, a piece about modern love and online dating. The video, described as a modern day fairytale, was shot in downtown Phoenix and the Saguaro Desert by Manchester born, Phoenix based director Jack Chapman. I.R.L’s 80′s inspired soundscape is imbued with the throbbing grandeur of CHVRCHES and Avec Sans, while its spellbinding vocals evoke Kate Bush. A touch of Twin Peaks’ warped retrowave is also present in the quixotic piece. I.R.L comes from Parallels’ recent album Metropolis, which can be found on Bandcamp, here.
